Nick Webb is the
author responsible for the official Douglas Adams
biography "Wish you were here". It is a
genuinely affectionate book and should be the Bible
for every Douglas Adams fan. Nick describes Douglas'
complicated and witty mind exaggeratingly well, and we
get a good glimpse at how the big man functioned.
The book is filled
with funny anecdotes and interesting facts, and Nicks
way of writing the book clearly owes to Douglas. It's
a nice book about a nice man, written by another nice
man. If you buy it, you will never regret it.
"I knew Douglas and
liked him a lot. Fortunately my affection survived the
process of researching for the book - and that's not
always the case as most grown-ups have done something
pretty dodgy at some time in our lives." writes
Nick. "It is a bit presumptuous (as Boswell said of his
bio of Dr. Johnson) to imagine that you can squeeze a
life into a few hundred pages. Wish You Were Here
has an unconventional structure for an unconventional
bloke. I hope that it will give a flavour of the man,
and be good company for an hour or two - like Douglas
himself."
Nick
himself appears in the documentary film "Life,
the Universe and Douglas Adams" wearing one
of Douglas suits, which, surprisingly, appeared to
almost corresponds to Nicks measurements...
