News: Nick Webb on political bullshit
|
By: The Duke of Dunstable |
Douglas Adams friend (and ours too), Nick Webb, wrote a few years ago the book [i:0289e36823]The Dictionary of Bullshit[/i:0289e36823]. Serious and subversive, shamelessly opinionated and amusing, this book was the first of its kind, an essential field guide for those who want to keep their Bullshit detectors in fighting trim.
Now, the second in its kind is written: [i:0289e36823]The Dictionary of Political Bullshit[/i:0289e36823]. Hopefully the publisher will issue it in time for the UK general elections later this year.
[i:0289e36823]The Dictionary of Bullshit[/i:0289e36823] can be bought from Amazon, in stock. |

The Royal Geographical Society, London, SW7 2AR
Thursday 11 March 2010
7.30pm (doors open 6.30pm)[/b:2c3030e270]
We are very pleased to announce that Professor Marcus du Sautoy will be giving the Eighth Douglas Adams Memorial Lecture. He will be giving a talk on a very Douglas themed number - the number 42!
Marcus du Sautoy is the Charles Simonyi Professor for the Public Understanding of Science and Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of New College. He has been named by the Independent on Sunday as one of the UK's leading scientists. In 2001 he won the prestigious Berwick Prize of the London Mathematical Society awarded every two years to reward the best mathematical research made by a mathematician under 40. In 2004 Esquire Magazine chose him as one of the 100 most influential people under 40 in Britain (Read full article) |

News: In space, no-one can hear you clean
|
By: The Duke of Dunstable |
[quote:0c57eeae50="Sue Ricketts"]Did you know that in space no one can hear you clean? David Kitcat, the cleaner, may be the only one able to save the ship as it hurtles out of time and space somewhere in the 81st century. So begins our student radio programme Stardusters.
The recording was devised and performed by a group of students with speech and language difficulties and I'm publicising the official launch of their show at school in March. We would be very grateful if members of the Douglas Adams continuum could send good luck to Declan, Joseph and Jonathan and the rest of the cast who will be very nervous on the night.[/quote:0c57eeae50]
If you'ld like to know more, give me a PM and I'll pass on Sues mail address.
I for one thinks this sounds absolutely brilliant and I wish a) them all the best of luck, and b) that I could get to hear it. |
