I think Veet was great as the Electric Monk.
I don't think the horse should scream so much, though, since it's supposed to stand perfectly still, which is a thing horses seldom do when making loud noises.

The horse screams just sort of got out of hand, don't pay attention to them.

Thanks, by the way.

Excellent idea :-)

Another audition from the same guy, this time auditioning for the part of the Daddy of the little girl.

http://s32.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0ZTT ... 4T8TKTR3HQ

IF i can be bothered i might mix the lines with wishkres' little girl audition, to create how the scene might sound....

update: No i wont after all. If someone else wants to they can.

Should I just read from the book? Is that the idea for the auditions?

Yeah, just read some lines from the book for the audition! Or someone will tell you what you can read if you know what character you want to be, or someone can tell you what character you might suit if you tell us about your voice.... If you have no voice there are a few non-speaking parts, however tea cup has already been cast.

I have four auditions for you

http://users.ox.ac.uk/~kebl2148/Dirk/Ch ... ndRich.mp3
http://users.ox.ac.uk/~kebl2148/Dirk/ChrisB-Reg.mp3
http://users.ox.ac.uk/~kebl2148/Dirk/Martin-Rich.mp3
http://users.ox.ac.uk/~kebl2148/Dirk/Sophie-Susan.mp3

ChrisB I think could be a good reg, in the above two auditions he gives two different types of voices he could do for Reg. I have also recorded me doing some of Rich's parts so if nobody better's about I could do him if people think so, really not sure though, I think there are much better voice actors out there than me.

And watch out for something special later tonight (hopefully...)

Weirdly, a mixture of the two different voices he did for reg might be better....... I thought the first was too spluttery and the second was too posh!

You'd make a good Richard actually. :-D You'll all need to practise the delivery of your lines a bit more to match up with the superb voice acting we've had so far but im sure thats just a formality.

Here's my version of Reg:
http://s24.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3A1NRRDGXQFYK1OUVD6P6VEZF4

Though I'd like to hear someone do Reg with a German(esque) accent.
I have a feeling that that'd bring something to the character.

Germanesque.... interesting idea, that lad from bremen might fancy a go at it?

I have to be str8 with you guys tho, i imagined reg a lot less imposing and not as aggressive. Would like to hear something soft spoken... though douglas adams reads him quite strongly so who am i to judge!

Feeling a bit bad that im judging when if i had to audition for it people would pretend the link didnt work or something

I like the way it looks like a number of people will be able to mix this and we can put it all together into episodes. This should also increase the speed it takes to make the episodes. I guess at some point we should decide when we get to the recording stage of recording everything, allocating who should mix what, and allocate someone to mix the mixes together, as such :-P

Read the scene by scene :)

For reasons that will be discussed when the script is ready, the explanation of what happened to Dirk at college, (when he was arrested etc), will play in a scene before the start of the episode.

Waux has written the lines. In my opinion the idea of the scene is excellent (Waux's original idea) and im sure everyone will help tweak the actual lines.

Update: Ive added the provisional cast in brackets above based on who has auditioned or wants the parts, or in the case of dirk, who should play the part! )

I can't read RTF files.

I think having me as the Announcer would be stupid. Why not you or Waux?
I'd like to try out for the TV Announcer, though.

My RTF files have colour and italics and all sorts to make them more readable, but noone can read them! I'll be sure to post the script in RTF and .txt tho... unless you tell me how i can send you a colourful formatted document type that you can read?

The announcer just needs to be a posh voice who credits the cast and tells a dead pan joke (like the hitchhikers announcer) and everyone said you had perfect voice for it from one of your auditions..... My voice isnt suited for any of the parts (unless there's a scottish part)... Waux might be interested in a role tho..?

Well, I think it'd be silly at least if I manage to nail the role of Dirk. I don't think I'm comfortable saying something like
"Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, by Douglas Adams, narrated by Pirate John, starring ??? as Richard, and myself, Vincent E.L., as Dirk"
It'd just sound silly.
But sure, if someone else gets the part of Dirk (which is indeed possible, but nobody has auditioned for him yet), then I'd be fine with doing the announcing.

I just noticed I can indeed open RTF files. Never mind, then. I'm taking a look at it right now.

Im writing in wordpad6 that comes on window XP....

My opinion on the announcing is that you are capable putting on the announcer accent better than anyone i heard and quite possibly you'd have a significantly different Dirk voice, but its certainly up to yourself!

Personally, I think my Dirk voice would be very close to my announcer voice, only more human and less announcing.

Ok, it's getting to the point where we need to come up with a finalised cast and crew of who's doing what, who is who and so on.

1) Script

2) Cast
This needs to be finalised soon.

So for each part we have the following possible characters (I sincerely apologise if I miss anybody out.)

Announcer
- Zskutterz
- Fleppo
- Any other member of the cast/crew? Or anyone else?
Narrator
- Pirate John
- Fleppo
Dirk
- Fleppo
Richard
- DipLCM
Susan
- Sophie
- Fenchurch (have you found any way of recording yet?)
Reg
- ChrisB
Little Girl
- Wishkres
Monk, Electric Horse
- Veet

Prof Watkins, Prof Crawly, Constable, TV Announcer, The Don
- Anybody, maybe Douglas Adams

First of all, are there any additions to this list? Does anybody object with characters with only one potential cast member being played by that said cast member? Any thoughts on how we should cast the minor parts? The only reservation I personally have as I don't think either the narrator or the announcer should play any other part unless they can make there voice sufficiently distinctive. Maybe.

3) Production

I shall put relevant bits of this in other threads.

Hey. A friend introduced me to what you're doing here and I think its really great, so I thought I'd try out for a role.
My audition is for the announcer:

http://users.ox.ac.uk/~kebl2148/Dirk/KZ-Announcer.MP3

If you dont need me to do this, I could do any other fairly small part.

That was some great announcing there, Skutterz (or whatever your name was)!
Good luck with the mic hunt^^

Though I think you should try auditioning for Richard as well.
