The poor fellow had quite a tough life. Born at Marineland Ontario in August 1989, he was transferred to Sea World California being just two years of age. In the wild, mother and offspring stay together for life. Splash suffered from epilepsy which Sea World controlled with anti-seizure medicine. Apparently he died because of a tooth infection that went out of control. Interestingly enough, all the park's whales refused to participate in the show yesterday, except for one older female who has now experienced the death of 22 whales during her 35 years behind bars. Including her seven offspring of which none survived beyond 46 days.
Splash's mother, Nootka, is still kept at Marineland Ontario. Between 1992 and 2004 she's had six calves plus a miscarriage. Sadly she had to watch all her kids pass away too, the last at Ontario half a year ago ...
