Alright, what do you think of Journey as a separate piece of music?

What do your friends think (some of mine who I've forced to listen to it say it's awful)?

Why, do you think, all later recordings fail to match the quality of the original (though I believe the new version for the Tertiary phase US release should be quite good)?

And have you any ideas what instrument is used in the sequence used in Hitchhiker's (I know the build up to the theme is a banjo, but what's the actual theme part played with - fiddles?)?

Open discussion and random opinions welcome.

I love the song. It develops really well, and it has a perfect timing for the (uh... what's the word)... epic (argh, no)... parts...

And I love banjos (I quite like bluegrass instrumentals), so...

But, about it on HH.... Maybe it's not even an acoustic instrument... But we've been told it sounds good, and from the few clips I heard from Talbot, I'm believing it.

The banjo is the instrument of froods.

What is better then a bluegrass banjo?

Nothing.

And this is a completely unbiased opinion.

Surely.

Shirley.

It's nice in short spurts but all 7 minutes of it... well... not so nice.

I think the whole song is great.

Then again, I am accustomed to long songs.

Journey is one of only three good songs the Eagles have ever done*. By the by, a friend of mine is a big Fleck fan. I haven't had a chance to check him out yet though.
*I HATE the Eagles. The other two good songs are Hotel California and Life in the Fast Lane. Other than those (and Journey) the Eagles suck.

The only three good songs by the Eagles:
1. Journey of the Sorcerer
2. Hotel California
3. Life in the Fast Lane
Hope that clears things up.

Didn't he direct that film called "Gaylord say 'no'"?

This is even sillier than Ridiculous Day down at the deli; when prices were so low, it was ridiculous...

I'm with ya PookaDude, although I only like two of their songs. Here's my list.
1. Journey of the Sorcerer
2. Take It Easy

Can't bear Hotel California. But that's just me. You probably can't bear Take It Easy.

Testify, brutha, friend of the revolution!

I saw him perform the year after the Iggles got back together and did that tour. He had to change the lyrics a bit.
