So, the season finale of Torchwood.

All in all I throught that it is a good show, but it has its flaws. A question that I asked myself is, is there any connection between Gwen and the similarly named character from The Unquiet Dead, also played by Eva Myles.

They only explored the Captain Jack character in the first episode and the second to last.

Why does Torchwood claim to be a secret operation when seemingly everyone knows about them.

And another problem I had was when it went gay for the sake of gay. There were absolutely no reason for the affair between Ianto and Jack. It was in no way connected to any story or subplot. To me, that seemed like just a thing to make Davis pat himself on the shoulder and thinking "I'm progressive". I had no problem with it at first. I throught "Hey, it must be related to a later episode. Gay for the sake of gay, that is what sloppy writers do when they just want to get some publicity".

I agree, the famous gay agenda can be a bit too much in the face. But to me the only annoying scene of the final two Torchwoods was after The Kiss, that Disney-like salute of the Jackangel, yikes, the series almost drowned in cheese there...

But they made it up with a great cliffhanger, the right kind of Doctor!!!

That Bilis bloke was terrifying...

But that ending! I was grinnning from ear to ear! Though Jack might get a bit of a shock when he walks through the door...

Finally watched the last two yesterday. I wasn't happy with "Captain Jack Harkness." The episode was poorly paced and didn't seem to offer much in the way of story.

"End of Days" was good, though. And I agree that Bilis was creepy. Abaddon was neat at first -- I liked the similarity to The Beast -- but Capt. Jack's deus ex machina solution was quite a bit of cheese.

The ending was fantastic. Can't wait for the next season. Or, maybe we'll catch up with Cap'n Jack in Doctor Who.

Wait, was captain Jack in the episode where the doctor goes down the pit where the devil is and then he pisses the devil off and the one guy dies.

That is probably the worst description ever, but it is as good as I can do.

No, Captain Jack was only in the last 5 episodes of series 1.

finally watched "cyberwoman" (i know i´m late ... my flatmate has to work crazy hours since weeks and is usually too tired to watch it with me, so i chose to wait).
i thought it was maybe a bit too much and the cyberlady outfit was definitely over the top - still, a nice horrible atmosphere and i liked the close timing, nearly real time.
i think i´d prefer something more creepy and subtle though.

the "coming next" looked good and i got some more glimpses of this ep which seems to deal with a favourite topic of mine: that elves are not the friendly little creatures they are made out to be.

It will help if you are familiar with the story behind the Cottingley Fairies - most British people would be familiar with this but you might not.

Isn't there a way of plugging in a digital box through the PC and sharing the programmes over the internet??

I'm sure I've come across this somewhere... must go have a look...

yeeess... same idea, but I'm positive I've come across something in the UK which can connect existing digital boxes to a home computer :???: Just no idea where... although the outcome would probably be the same... someone would have to invest some pennies into it to be able to share the programmes...

I'm soon going to be setting up a system where the TV (digital) comes into a computer. We're using one of these cards. But I don't know whether you can go direct from an old set-top-box to the computer...

I have one of these on my mac but I hardly ever use it.

I also just got one of these and it is one of the nicest toys I have had the pleasure playing with for a long time.

I only just started watching Torchwood. Three episodes in and I find it a bit uneven but not too bad. Definitely not for the kids and I wonder if the new season having Martha in it is going to be cause for younger viewers to tune in.

Exciting bit of casting news for series 2 as James Marsters, who played Spike on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, will be appearing.

As you were.

Right, so let´s blow some dust away from this thread here, I mean, man!
5 years!

5 years since Gonz has told the truth about women we were only too much afraid to ask, and nothing has ever happened here ever since and now I come and say: yes, that is true!

What, you may ask yourself, that it?
No, of course not, I just want to add that I have actually never seen one solid episode of Dr. Who in my life.
Alright, alright, but I´ve seen Torchwood, now, at least the first episodes, that is.

So... well, just Sci-Fi trash at its finest, sex, aliens, sex with aliens, monsters, mutants, cyborgs, ghosts, alien gimmicks, time rifts, telepathy, crime, all of it without any sense or meaning or purpose other than "hey, let´s take just any Sci-Fi stuff we can think of to fill the episodes" (exactly in the order those story-guys brainstormed it up), characters having sex with each other at random, for no apparent reason but to add it to the crime, a little bit of ordinary Welsh life to make the contrast and the cool American dude to make the contrast to that, all of it just as cynical and callous as our world is these days, dark, weird and funny too.

Amazing!
I just loved it and gobbled it up until I came to a special, where the actors were sort of advertising and actually said something like that this would actually be some valuable and high-class entertainment, which upset me because it isn´t, it´s just trash.

Now, don´t make the mistake telling the audience which is happily enjoying trash that it´s actually valuable entertainment!

It gets better. The first two seasons left me pretty cold, and I was about to give up on it when the end of season 2 started getting pretty gritty. Season 3 & 4 are both pretty amazing, and I'm glad I stuck with it.

I just love it when someone gets killed, because you can never rely on that.

A. the guy shot can´t die, is immortal. B. the guy shot is not shot for he wears a device impenetrable for bullets. C. the guy shot grows back an organ, stands up and shoots the shooter D. he was actually not on the place, what you saw was just an illusion, time shift, deflector device, other alien gimmick. D. he gets resurrected after it anyway E. he was on the place and shot and actually died, yet then there were some probability changes and another self of that guy just walks around enjoying himself later - and so on. So, whenever someone gets killed, I just go like, yeah, right, except the not-sexy aliens, of course, they stay dead alright.

Anyway, since I just love trash to relax from own hyper-dimensional mega brain activities (I mean, my brain sector for self-irony alone is size of a planet) and you get 600 minutes for 10 Euros here I just bought the second set. We´ll see.

I mean, from a writers standpoint, that deep-freeze, where they store everybody dead, is an amazing thing to have! Just imagine, when you work with characters, you never know when you killed someone you might actually miss him later on in the story and with real actors it´s even more useful to have a deep-freeze, where you can just thaw up again someone you come to need, or, you know, that actor might have a lawyer and sue you that his contract originally was for two episodes but you killed him after that first and bang, thaw him up again! Amazing!

The quality of the episodes is quite oscillating. Some are real trash, f.ex., a stint into the splatter-section, where people just suppose aliens but it´s not and then some are really brilliant, like that one where the rift sucks up people and that mom misses her son and then gets him back 7 months later, yet charred and forever changed, for he had looked into a dark star and had gone mad about it and she says that she was better off when she did not know, for then she still had hope.

That was really subtle and goes deep into the human psyche, those people who go missing and the hardest thing for the relatives is that they can´t let go, unless they know what has happened to them.
