11 March 2012 would have been Douglas Adams’ 60th Birthday. To celebrate this event, Douglas' family and friends, in association with 'Save The Rhino' (one of Douglas' favourite charities) are holding a very special birthday celebration in his honour at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. The event will feature science, music, comedy and interviews with some very special guests, including Brian Cox, Robin Ince, Terry Jones, Dara O’Briain, Stephen Mangan and many more.

Tickets now available!

OK,

My plan is to book a group of tickets so we can all sit together, like a big happy family!

So, just let me know who's up for it and I'll book 'em!

Quick as possible though, we don't want to get stuck in the back row now.

:)

Oh, if only I could go! I should make it my goal in life to be able to jet off to London whenever I please.

Yes, Oblong, you should!

As there's been no public announcement yet, the tickets aren't moving too quickly. As confirmed on FB, Dave and I have secured eight tickets each (the maximum allowed), on behalf of the following:

Tony's group
Tony
Scratch
MG
Queazer (John) x 2
DiFool (Martin)
Deborah (zz9 member)
Old Peculier (Garry)

Dave's group
DaveH
Mrs DaveH (Sarah)
Gusty (Dave)
Dukey (Jenz)
Nic Botti x 2
Jim (jimmowatt)
Carrie (Fen/Mrs jimmowatt)

Looks like we're all in the same row too, which should be fun!

So, plenty of tickets available, but get your order in quick if you want to be in the vicinity of us early birds!

I would love to go. Alas, I am poor. Any ideas on how to stop being poor?

I don't think they'll let me do that again.

So, I've updated the booking list so far. These are all secured and paid for, so thank you to those that have paid me so far. I will confirm receipt personally to you when I get around to checking my bank/paypal, etc.

Anyway, it's looking like a rather epic party type thing. Here's the names who have places, in no particular order:

Tony's group (14 seats)
Tony
Tony's friend (tbc)
Scratch
MG
Queazer (John) x 2
DiFool (Martin)
Deborah (zz9 member)
Old Peculier (Garry)
Nick Webb
Janette T
Andreas S
Alex P (DaveH's friend)
A.N.OTHER (spare ticket, waiting to be claimed - and paid for! Any offers?)

Dave's group (8 seats)
DaveH
Mrs DaveH (Sarah)
Gusty (Dave)
Dukey (Jenz)
Nic Botti x 2
Jim (jimmowatt)
Carrie (Fen/Mrs jimmowatt)

And yes, I think we're still ALL in the same row!

Plenty of tickets available still, but once my spare is claimed I'd like to pass on the responsiblity of securing any more to someone else, in case my credit card explodes![/quote]

I wish I could come. Is there a way to be in two places at once? Maybe I could make a day trip from Miami.

Tony, Alex P is Alexander Pawlak. He is a member of the DAC (and ZZ9), was at Hitchcon and the related events, and is also the author of http://www.amazon.de/Die-Wissenschaft-b ... 3527504567 which we discussed back at viewtopic.php?t=15755

So, now we're all sold out for our current allocation of tickets. Here's the list of those with tickets:

Tony's group (14 seats)
Tony
Nellodee (Ann)
Scratch
MG
Queazer (John) x 2
DiFool (Martin)
Deborah Fishburn (zz9 member)
Old Peculier (Garry)
Nick Webb
Janette T
Andreas S
Alexander P
Pip Spratt

Dave's group (8 seats)
DaveH
Mrs DaveH (Sarah)
Gusty (Dave)
Dukey (Jenz)
Nic Botti x 2
Jim (jimmowatt)
Carrie (Fen/Mrs jimmowatt)

The word seems to be spreading around now, so I expect demand to pick up.

Tickets still available in the DAC-VIP row E, but anyone who's not on this list will need to arrange their own tickets...or dispose of one or more of the current listees!

I can't believe I am going to miss this. What are my chances of getting a ticket at the last minute if a miracle occurs?

All ticket sales are being managed by the venue and ticket master, hence once they are gone, they are gone.

This is why we are having a bit of a soft launch, to let those in the know have plenty of chance to get seats before we release Stephen Fry to start tweeting it, which he very nearly did by mistake the other day.

by all means ask about tickets last thing, just can't promise to be able to help, sorry.

I've booked today. Think I'm in seat F29, or something... Duinno if that's any good, but I'm sure it will be fun wherever I am.

My darlings, would someone please get me a ticket in case a miracle occurs and I can get there? I will PayPal you immediately, and if I don't make it perhaps someone else would like my ticket.

Mission accomplished.

But my oh my, Row T!!!!

Sorry, but James is right about them flying off the shelves.

I bought 4 this time, as I got a request for two from Totta, which is fabulous! Woohoo!!

I thought I'd secure one extra, just to be safe, so if there are any takers just step up, speak up and cough up!

Nell, Dave H has booked upstairs at The Captain's Cabin from 7pm Saturday night.
Not sure where I'm staying yet.

Nell, I believe the Captain's Cabin serves food until 9pm, but that should probably be checked. Some DACers enjoyed the "special sausage" last time.

There are a few people arriving in London during the day on the Saturday, OP and Gusty for starters, so you might like to make arrangements to meet up with them before the Captain's Cabin depending on your respective arrivals times.

I believe Janette is staying at the President in Bloomsbury. I plan to stay in London the Saturday night but have not arranged anything yet.

If you get into the UK early enough to get to Cambridge railway station by 1pm then I am running a tour that will take in Douglas's birthplace and other locations related to him and his work.

Doors open for the show at 4pm on the Sunday, and it starts at 5pm. So there will be a quick tour of Islington, starting from Angel tube station at 1pm.

oh, i´m all for that!
joking apart, you´re saying that it might be a good idea to get a bite beforehand? i´m sure that can be arranged. thanks for making the reservation for us, it´s great to have an insider in town!
as for the cambridge tour, the timetable might be a bit tight for me. and the show starts at 5 pm! my, that´s early! how long do you think will it be? do we need to think about where to go afterwards? (this week-end is seriously starting to sound like a rave!)

55 days to the big party, even fewer for those who are kicking off a couple of days early.

In response to Dave's comment about getting a nibble up the old Captain's Cabin, their website says they serve food up to 10pm on a Saturday. The menu's a little unadventurous, but reasonable value for London.

http://www.taylor-walker.co.uk/pub-food ... /pid-C6500

Plenty of alternatives nearby of course, depending on your budget/taste/time constraints.

55 days folks!!!

since i´m a very social person, my main motive for getting a bite is meeting you guys... so if we decide to meet for some dinner before the captain´s cabin, this works perfectly for me. alternatively, we´ll check out their menu - either way is fine.
since i´m also a forgetful person (well, sometimes, head like a... what´s the thing called where you strain spaghetti in?), i can´t remember right now when we were supposed to meet at the pub. wasn´t it rather early anyway (7 pm-ish)?

Nell, OP set up a google calendar which feeds in nicely with all us trendy facebook people...oh wait, you're not on there, are you? ;)

Well in this case, you may find this useful:

https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?s ... e%2FLondon

I'm sure that it will grow and evolve as the time approaches.

Nice to see that classic the fish finger sandwich on the menu.

Nell, like Tony says, check out the calendar and see who will be in London rather than Cambridge and sort out lunch, afternoon tea, or an early dinner with them.
