well, you can say a lot about his movies, but "boring" they usually aren´t.

well, you even get to see her out of the dress... but i still wouldn´t say it´s remotely worth it.

The Three Musketeers in 3D. Absolutely wonderful nonsense from Paul Anderson. Myself and chums are sitting there looking, as you do like idiots with the 3D glasses on, and i say to a friend "I'm surprised we haven't had a 3D shot of a cannonball spinning towards the camera yet."

3 seconds later we get the shot. I also enjoyed 'Driver' tremendously, and Tinker Tailor for being one of the best british films of the last decade.

3D images of Raquel Welch are roaming my brain. I'll be in my bunk...

We watched The English Patient again last night. So good. Such storytelling!

'Immortals' from Tarsem Singh. Created in the same visual style as the outstanding '300' i found it to be curiously tepid. Great performances all round etc, but it lacked a passion and fire that was in the Zack Snyder film. Next up is the prequel to The Thing of the same name. I know it's not going to be as good as the John Carpenter original, but i want it to be really really good. Please.

The last movie I saw was Hugo and I really liked it! Went in with no expectations, but it was really good.

Sorry for the late reply, but no, The Thing (2011) is a full prequel in every sense with it telling the full story of the discovery of the alien spacecraft that crashed in the first film and the fate of the Norwegian research base. Director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr has gone over the Carpenter original with a fine tooth comb and created a film that is the perfect companionpiece to the first movie. Not a single detail is missed, with virtually every question the audience may have answered. The film then segues at the end into The Thing 82 seamlessly, using the theme music from Morricone then and only then! I thought it was absolutely superb. Heijningen Jr may well be a future Paul Verhoeven, his rhythm and pacing of plot and action was flawless.

ah, this is a cool concept! indeed, the norvegian camp had it even worse...

my last movie: the new "Jane Eyre" with Michael Fassbender. Gorgeous, gothic, intense, a very good adaptation of the novel!

Watched Toy Story 3 the other night.

GOOD LORD, Pixar gets dark! I can't believe that film was rated G! It freaked me out a few times!

'Ben Hur' on blu ray. The team at Warner Bros has done an outstanding job of fully restoring the film from it's original 70mm print and scanning the film in a 4K resolution. Fimgrain remains intact with no digital noise reduction or edge enhancement and the sound is fantastic. The Ultimate Collectors Edition also comes with a feature-length HD documentary featuring the memories of Charelton Heston's son Fraser called Ben Hur: A Personal Journey that includes first-time footage and photographs from the Heston family archives. Absolutely first class.

"those magnificent men in their flying machines". why? because i happebed to be in jersey this year, at the time of their big "battle of flowers" parade. one of the floats featured the movie as a theme and they had the theme song on auto-repeat. talk about an earworm! never having seen the movie, i decided i´d have a look. deliciously silly.
have the theme song, so you can have an earworm, too:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wK74kZoyEXw

actually, i feel this song´s atmosphere would work nicely as a DAC anthem. ooh, we need that! someone write fitting lyrics! and then we´ll make a DAC internet choir!

Birdemic: Shock and Terror with Rifftrax. Before that was Rifftrax Live: Manos: The Hands of Fate. Both of these movies were bad, but Manos is a movie I could watch and enjoy its badness without Rifftrax, whereas Birdemic was so horrible, I couldn't imagine sitting through the whole thing without Rifftrax. But I am looking forward to seeing Birdemic live in October: http://www.fathomevents.com/originals/e ... axBIRDEMIC

You guys should come watch it with me!

last movie: "total recal", remake. before you say anything, yes, i knew it would be a bad idea, but it wasn´t mine, it was a late birthday surprise and i didn´t get to choose the movie. but the real gift was the setting: we watched the movie in berlin´s one and only drine-in cinema. first time for me! and it was great fun. at least we got to make fun of the movie to our heart´s content without bothering anyone who might´ve enjoyed it.
but boy, what a rotten, hectic, uninspired no-fun affair this remake was...
