What an oddly entertaining little film. Quirky characters that left me wanting to learn more about their backgrounds. I'm disappointed to discover it wasn't based on a book.

I saw that a while back. I enjoyed it, but my enjoyment was squelched a bit by the fact that we rented it with people who are not into quirky movies.
And it really did have the feel of an adaptation.

Seven Pounds with Will Smith. Very powerful, very emotional, very challenging. You'll need to let yourself drawn into this magic movie. You'll need your hanky, too. I did.

I saw Inception on Saturday (at a theater)

I also saw Twilight on Sunday (at home, via Netflix).

Inception was fun, Twilight was a decision not to read the books but still wanting to stay connected to pop culture. I'll watch the other Twilight movies as well, so it wasn't bad.

Also Twilight related, I stumbled across a person (hope I didn't bruise them too badly) who wrote a Twilight neo-fan-fiction-but-mockingly book and posted it chapter by chapter on LiveJournal. She's actually done 3 of the series and is working on a fourth; http://xlormp.livejournal.com/

Whoa, that was a tangent, now wasn't it? This whole post could be a clever commentary on the movie Inception.

The Expendables.

If there is something wrong with the movie, it is that it wants to be a homage to the classic Brainless Action-Movie, but it is not enough tongue-in-cheek so it just comes off as a brainless action-movie. It wants to be a commentary on the genre and the actors, but it never really says anything.

There a pools of brilliance that appears to be from a much better realized movie and pools that needed a rewrite.

On a scale from "What the hell" to "Awesome!", I will give it a "s'allright".

Micmacs

Yet another piece of movie magic from the weird brain that inhabits Jean Pierre Jeunet!

"Pirates of Silicon Valley"

If even half of the movie is true, it is amazing what you can accomplish with a set of gigantic balls.

What is interesting is, if the movie is correct, Jobs was able to begin the Cult of Apple even before the first Macintosh was even released. And he was insanely manipulative, building a cult of personality around himself while making the competitors out to be "big brother". Not that Gates is portrayed much more positively, contrasting Jobs completely by making him the ultimate nerd. I don't think that Microsoft is shown making a single original program in the movie. Though to be fair, they sort of offhandedly mentions that Apple nicked a lot, if not all, of the design of their GUI from Xerox.

Bonuspoints for featuring the Turtleneck in the movie. That I approve.

Toy Story 3.

I realise that it is just about every new Pixar movie that makes me say "their best movie yet", and it is getting slightly silly. Stop making great movies. Dang it, you almost made me cry, you swine.

"La tête en friche" ("My Afternoons with Margueritte", "Das Labyrinth der Bücher") with Gérard Depardieu

Beautiful little movie about an illiterate and lonely man bonds with an older and well-read woman.

Two actually:

Last week dragonprincess and I watched Pirates of the Caribbean IV. At least a few giggles, but so far the worst of them. Yesterday I watched X-men: First Class together with son #2. Michael Fassbender drool worthy and reasonably fun action sequences.

Both movies OK as waste of times, anyway.

Just now saw 'Slaughterhouse five'. I know it's a few years old, but I never saw it, now I did, damn good, very much like the novel, which is one of my fav Vonnegut novels. Damn good.

HP7.2

Great ending to a great series. Here's hoping for more greatness from JKR!

Horrible Bosses.

It was the opposite of horrible. I laughed a lot. Much better than Bad Teacher. Which was bad.

Super 8

It was alright. They got a bit quick around the last five minutes, perhaps common for JJ Abrams, but the rest was excellent.

Monsters by the genius that is Gareth Edwards

Low-budget, high-CGI sci-fi flick with only two professional actors, gorgeous Central American locations and a monster that sounds like a humpback whale! Brilliant!!!

"Midnight in Paris." What you would expect a Woody Allen movie about Paris to be. Ending tottaly predictable. But it was cute-ish, and Paris is a lovely city.

You won't regret it! But beware, it's more of a road movie than a regular monster film.

Cars 2. It was alright. Probably one of the worse Pixar-movies, which I guess still makes it a pretty good movie.

I saw Attack the Block on Wednesday and thought it was fantastic! It's about a bunch of south London teenagers who have to defend their housing block against aliens, and it was really tense and exciting, well-written, well-acted, funny, scary... I highly recommend it if it's playing near you! Seriously, go see it.

Juno. That was an ordeal.

It is a movie about people I don't especially like in a story I don't really care about.

I relented and bought Mary & Max, and watched it again tonight.

Pure genius, a humbling movie.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. Be warned though, MG, it deals with issues close to those you've encountered recently, so pick your moment to watch carefully.

Watched "The Lake House."

It was exactly how I thought it was going to be.

Also saw "Take the Lead," with Antonio Banderez (sorry) playing a dance instructor for torubled inner-city highschoolers. Better than I thought it was going to be.

oh, was it? mind telling us all about it in the tintin-thread? because i am really curious. i want to like the movie, because i love tintin and because spielberg and jackson really seem to have put their heart into it, but i´m a bit wary of the "uncanny valley" effect - will the characters really come to life or will their be something of an artificial feeling to the whole thing? thanks for your input!

Lars von Trier´s "Melancholia". And what a desaster this was. My advice: Cut the whole first part (an hour´s worth), and you might end up with a decent film without losing any vital or even remotely interesting part of the story. Except if you are a really big fan of kirsten dunst in a wedding dress.

The name "Lars von Trier" would be enough for me to pass on this movie...
