...and my overall impression so far is: meh.

I think the Moffat is trying too hard to be everything to everybody (kids & adult fans) which is an impossible task imo.

Matt Smith is ok. He does wacky eccentric just fine, but totally unconvincing when he attempts dark & brooding.

Maybe Billie, Freema & Katherine are just hard acts to follow...but Karen Gillian comes across as flaky. Also, I think we were spoilt with the amazing chemistry between Eccleston/Tennant and their respective companions. The 11th Doctor & Amy aren't there yet.

Rory and Doctor River Song save the day thank bob.

Hoping the 2nd half of Season 6 doesn't disappoint.

Also hoping for some more Torchwood soon ...

*apologies for starting a new thread .... too lazy to go looking through the archives for existing Season 5 & 6 threads.

...and my overall impression so far is: mwah.

I loved the ride so far! Season 5 was the best Doctor Who season to me, Season 6 is going strong. "The Curse of the Black Spot" and "The Rebel Flesh" weren't 10/10's but the rest was pretty darn up there. Especially "The Impossible Astronaut" with its wacky dialogue and "The Doctor's Wife" with Neil Gaiman's gorgeous story made my days.

Matt Smith never fails to amaze me. First Doctor to be nominated for a BAFTA and rightfully so. Karen Gillan is more eye candy but I can live with that! Arthur Darvill and Alex Kingston get the best one-liners, easy to like them a lot.

In general I enjoy the many twists and subplots that Steven Moffat provides us with. Maybe a bit harder to follow than RTD's Doctor Who but I prefer it the Moff's way!

I disagree. A lot. I think seasons 5 and 6 has been the first time the show has been consistently good. With RTD, you expected the occasional clunker, but you were alright with it, because you knew a great episode would come along soon. It was just part of the show. We sat through Boom Town, Love and Monsters, Fear Her, Daleks in Manhattan, Stolen Earth and Journeys End for episodes like, well, most other episodes. With Moffatt, I don't feel there has been any such episodes that I would never rewatch on my own. The worst I feel you can accuse any episode under Moffatt of being is paced oddly, like Victory of the Daleks, which I honestly think should have been a two-parter, or The Black Spot, which isn't a bad episode but probably needed another rewrite. The Flesh two-parter could probably have been a one-parter, but I guess it was important to set up the whole Flesh thing properly.

I think Smith is brilliant. I think he is almost better at displaying raw anger than Tennant. Like in the mid-finale, where he is telling that lady that she is about to find out why he has to many rules. Or in the last season, where no human has anything to say to him, that particular day. Likewise Gillan, I think her and Smith has a brilliant chemistry. I, for one, am glad they dropped the flirting between the Doctor and the companions that we got with Ten.

i´m with stej and lord-z here all the way. i took to matt smith immediately and warmed up to amy a bit later, even more so ever since it became clear that rory was there to stay. that trio works brilliantly. and the story-telling! the finale of season 5 was among the best writing i´ve seen of tv and the season 6 opener was just kaPOW!

I'm slightly disappointed this season. The only stories that I can say I overwhelmingly enjoyed was "Day of the Moon" and "The Doctor's Wife." All the rest have ranged from not very impressed ("The Impossible Astronaut"), to meh ("The Almost People"/"The Rebel Flesh" and "A Good Man Goes To War") to downright execrable ("Curse of the Black Spot"). I'm not a fan of River Song and the revelation of who she is doesn't impress me in the least.

So far, a very average series.

Have to agree though I did enjoy River Song until that last episode.

Anyhow, still hoping the 2nd half doesn't disappoint.

I've never liked River Song, nor do I buy the Doctor's reactions to her. It's all too neat and contrived. Not to mention, River Song is psychotic.

True, she is a little on the psychotic side.

To dislike both Amy Pond and River Sing is clear sign that you're a member of Al-Quaeda!

Who said anything about disliking Amy? It's River Song. I just have never liked her.

Interesting choice of word/label that in many real life situations/places/contexts could land people in trouble Stej.

It's a regular Craig Ferguson line. Here's another piece of his wisdom: "Everytime a woman gets a breast reduction an angel loses its wings."

Yeah well, still an extremely politically loaded word to label someone with.

Just because a comedian can get a away with it doesn't make it acceptable.

FYI...I never said I didn't like River Song ... see 1st post.

I wasn't addressing you anyway. Actually nobody, for that matter. I was just outrageously audacious to dare a politically incorrect joke. I didn't know that this would offend you. My insincerest apology!

We never had this sort of problem before the darkies got the power to vote.
