That sounds very painful, Janette. I hope you feel better soon.

Apparently there seems to be some cockup involving the union at my /possible/ new workplace. Got a mail from the unemployment agency representative stating the union needs more time to look into the matter before agreeing to my getting the post. Did I mention my disbelief in anything good coming from the union? I'm seriously considering doing like lots of swedes and leave the thing. Never did anything for me, but now they're showing off and doing something TO me. So I guess I'll see if I will stay on at the farm for a while.
Unions...
Gah.

No, I'm not being fair, of course the union did lots of good that I appreciate, a pal reminded me of 8 hour workday, workplace safety, insurance etc. I'm just overly irritated at the moment, but I don't want to be unfair.
I just wish they'd find something more important to focus on than my right to work... (though it seems like it might only be a week or so delay)

hey usk, it´s only natural to be irritated when your future job is concerned... something similar happened to mr. nell, also a case of a union-like institution /meant to be there FOR the workers) meddling and being the cause of much anxiety. it all worked out, happily, so i´m hoping the same for you!

Thanks Nellodee! I'll keep my fingers crossed, as if that would do any good, well, I'll do it anyway...
Peace

client. from. hell.
the worst job i´ve ever had.
and now i have to discuss layout issues with some underling who doesn´t know the first thing about design, but is telling me we don´t comply with their corporate design manual.
this isn´t just a MASSIVE waste of time at the most inconvenient spot of the project, it is also deeply humiliating.

I know where you're coming from, Nellodee, some people...
Me, I just got the info it's because the music school is run by the county council that the union has to look all over to see if one of their own members should have the position. Hope not, and such stupid rules, I like them, they like me, what's the problem? But I quit the job at the farm tomorrow anyway, some bastard comes in there and starts shouting something about stupid 08's (area code for stockholm(my place of birth) phone) and he comes in every day, none of the others do anything to get him away, so I decided to call my unemployment agent, who fixed this, she asks if I have a problem handling conflicts, I say I just don't like being bullied by a stupid bastard who doesn't belong there at all. So she says she'll fix something for the time until we know if the county decides to scrap this for yours truly.
Conflict problem, yada yada...

Would everyone agree here that, to be friends with someone, means that you do have the right to be angry at them? Even if such anger does sometimes end up as blunt as 'Hey, you're being an asshole. Stop it.' Because friends are supposed to look out for each other and their best interests, and to prevent drama not ignore any problems that may crop up because sweeping things under the rug just leads to bad things.

Well, my best friend and the only member of my generation I've met face-to-face that I can tolerate for more than a few hours at a time, does not agree with that sentiment. And guess what? I have two rehearsals and a class with him today. He put off what was originally a little problem and now a big one for nearly three years. Bad things will happen.

keep cool, appo. friends will disagree about things, too, for example how problems should be solved... i know, i have friends who come from very different problem-solving cultures. the best thing you can do is, let your anger cool down a bit and try putting yourself into their shoes - and be honest about it, no-one´s watching... if you can at least understand where they are coming from, take another step back and consider if their approach may have some merit, even if it´s not your thing. if you can do that, you´re most likely one step closer to solving this dilemma. of course, there might be insurmountable issues n(also, the othet person might just really have behaved like an asshole!), but there´s always the chance the he/she has also thought about this and is willing to work it out. best of luck, a row with a good friend is always hard.

Anyone who's seen my posts with links to social skills is probably aware I'm no genius in that compartment. Still I'd like to put in a few words as regards the above. It might be wise not to pay attention to these words, but I'll type them anyway.
Firstly, given my much limited skill in the area, I always try to offer the benefit of a doubt, it seems when it comes to close interpersonal relations like friendship, love or general affection, not much is really carved in stone.
Secondly, if I really value another person being part of my life, I mean REALLY, I will say 'I'm sorry if I hurt you, I didn't realize' or something to that effect, even if I feel deep down I was right and they were wrong. This simply because I know no one is perfect, certainly not me, but good friends are few and - as luck might have it - there is often too long a stretch of time between meeting them. This may be of no consequence at all and might be disregarded, but the value of a dear friend is much higher than that of - at least MY - ego.

I've put up with being nice and quiet for nearly three years, only to be continually ignored. Told things would change when they didn't. I've had enough.

Sounds like you're facing a bad case of Ostrich-syndrome. I think it's more of a guy-thing to ignore a problem and hope it goes away. Especially when that problem is with a someone.

Trouble is, part of the syndrome is not realising that what goes away may not be the problem, but the someone.....

If it's a lesson that needs to be learned, perhaps on a temporary basis?...either way, I hope it's doesn't get too messy.

After 16+ years of marriage my sister and her husband are calling it a day. She is the cool, pretty, talented one but right now all she can do is cry. I wish I could magically banish the doubt and fear, but all I can do is listen to and love her. Time, time, time.

If it helps, after my marriage of 30 years ended I was completely lost but now I'm thinking it's the best thing that has happened to me in a long long time. After getting over the shock and all the emotions that hit me I have moved on and am now looking forward to my future. I have been to hell and back but I'm back for sure.

Very well put, Scratch!
I only had ten years, but the box of pills didn't leave my mind the first few months after the split. Now I wonder what the hell I was thinking. Emotions...

This actually opened up doors and windows to the beauty of life and all around. I think realizing life is so much more than a relationship was a bit tricky at first. It takes time to find the guy who slowly disappeared during the years of twosomeness. Finally a version emerged, a bit older, a lot wiser, and - to quote T. Petty - 'happy to be here, happy to be alive'.

Actually, me being here in sweden, I'd never even heard of the dude, the insulting bastard, the complete opposite of nice spokenness, the faintly fart smelling son of an ironmonger, the piece of meat having rested for two (2) weeks on the kitchen shelf in sunlight and clad in bird droppings awkwardness. (only kidding, actually he seems to have the gift of the word, which is the finest gift of all, except for strong, black coffee.)

Teenaged daughters. A year's worth of Masterpiece Theater never provided the amount of drama my two girls can produce in one day.

Can I move in with someone here, please? Scratch? Horatio? Ken? I'd ask mg but that'd be the first place my family would look.

Gonz,
I believe I have a faint idea of what you're going through. I have only one, but at times she drives me completely nuts. I can only imagine what it must be like to have two...
The thing to remember and frequently recall is we've all gone through it. We were all more or less pain. Hormones will do that to people.
One comfort is it wears off. In a couple of years we will all rejoice in memories of our kids' teenage period.
Memory's capacity for beautifying the past will make it less horrible.

It's just bite the dead herring, throw the hat on the fire, empty the coffee mug and hold on to some dream of peaceful days and nights at the home for elderly relatives and retired dogs...

Usk, I see your advice and I thank you for it. But some things you may not know about my daughters...

1. They're red heads.
2. They're stubborn.
3. The oldest is a black belt in karate.
4. The youngest is what Paul McCartney would call a "king mixer".

Send the daughters to Ken Socrates.

They'll probably return in a fortnight, begging to be taken back.

I'm glad I've grown out of it. My daughter is now a nice young lady I'm happy to spend time with

Safe haven here Gonz, my daughter now lives in Portsmouth for most of the time. You may have to head for the hills if she comes home though...
Actually she's 20 now and flipping lovely. Ride it out my friend, it's worth it.

last night, not feeling too well, planning to get a heat cushion for my hurting shoulders. this was supposed to be the very last action after a trying day. you know, get the cushion, heat in up, tuck myself in.
rooting through the closet, however, i made a disgusting discovery:
the bottom drawer where said cushion is stored and which i hadn´t opened for maybe a year, has been infested by a plague of mealworms. those buggers had obviously made a feast of the grains in the cushion, and reproduced like bunnies, infesting the whole drawer and all that was in it.
nothing like a disgusting heavy-duty cleaning job after a stressful day.

Well, !YaY! for not needing the heating pad in a year's time, but Oh-My-BOB - I'd've lost it.

(I have a friend who uses microwaveable buckwheat-filled sacks as heat compresses. She stores them in big ziplock plastic bags in her freezer, but I never understood why. I guess this explains it.)

yeah, i was just sticking to the hot water bottle all this time... it´s the damn city. we never ever had mealworms back home in the village. but yeah, other bugs/mice/stuff aplenty, so no freaking out, just a big F***!!! for the unexpected late night shift. also, the vacuum was acting up, so i had to fix this, too. oh, and i had to throw out all the other stuff in that drawer, i was in no mood at all to sort through it and decide what was less infested. mostly stuff that doesn´t matters much, but my pretty feather boas and pink wig... bleah. i´m just glad mr. nell wasn´t there.

It might also be exceedingly brilliant coming out of the freezer and onto a sore neck and shoulder.

Such is what I have.

The union killed the job opportunity at the conservatory. Why? Beats me. Always figured unions would like unemployed people getting jobs. Not this one. Guess I didn't buy gifts or coffee for the 'right' person.

Really.
Unions.
Bah.

No, that one was only for summer. But as usual, I shall survive. Sad, though, as both parties, me and prospective employer, were set on it being a go.
Well, it's life, and life only, as one of my fav poets once said. It's behind me now, let's focus on a brighter tomorrow, eh. I feel positive it'll all be ok some day in the not too distant future, I'll fix something in the realm of culture. It's a tight sector, though, so the mind must get to work now finding the open door among all the shut ones. As I said elsewhere, I still have jazz. That's one thing they can't take away, even if I know they would if they could.

Jazz and coffee.
Black and strong.
Lethal.
Gah.

While I can't solve everyone's problem, having recently needed a replacement card myself - I can help with yours, gonz. Start here. (Does this mean you've found a new job?)

And ukebloke, I can also likely lend a helping hand if there's something in particular causing your frustration with MS Word. (I won't say exactly how many years' experience I have in the field, but the words "steno pool" spring to mind.)

I did finally locate it, thanks for your help. (Yes, it does!)

Missing plastic cards can really be a pain in the *ss.

Minor bitch.

My old faithful travel laser mouse has finally caved in and is no more. Guess it takes its tolls to be caught by a cat (Lynx) and thrown away, down to the floor etc repeatedly. The should be new ones available, so it's just a matter of time until I will be back in ordinary business again.

I don't like touch pads.

My TV may have killed another USB device. I got some firmware from Sonys website for my TV, I loaded it on a USB drive, stuck it in my TV and... Nothing. It did not detect it. Now my computer doesn't detect it either. Last time I connect anything to that TV by USB.

Strange thing is, I have googled just about everything I could, there is no reports, that I can find, of Sony Bravias fucking up everything connected by USB.

Last night Desmond ran full tilt, tripped, and smacked his head against the nightstand. Within seconds, there was a huge purple/blue mark on his head, and it started to swell. It was really really big. We went through the "emergency room" question process, looked up on the web to see what they advised. He wasn't vomiting, blacking out or seemed out of sorts. Of course this happened just right at 5pm, so we tried the doctor and had to get in touch with the on-call doctor who told us the same as the web. So we tried to get ice on, and eventually got him to put frozen peas on his own head, as he would not accept us doing so. His aim was fairly off, but he iced down the area nearby.
I mainly want to bitch because I want to know if he is doing okay, and I've been waiting all morning for lunch as I am filling in for someone who is taking this week off who opens. So I wanted to sneak into his room at 2am when I was about to leave for work, but did not. And the wife has not responded to my email yet so that I know he is okay. Stupid work.

Don't worry, Cag. Same happened to me when I was a kid. No lasting effects. None at all. As far as I know...
