I've been working on the fretboard today, finally completed it, the frets are perhaps not perfect, rounding of the frets along the fretboard is not perfect, but will do for now. Did a 'grab' just to illustrate the point:

Yup.
A perspective of the thing up to now.
I fixed the shape of the frets, now they follow the neck profile quite nicely.
It's coming along.

I have no pic for now, just an update, the pickup switch is fixed, with the round plate with those words, 'RHYTHM and TREBLE on it. The plug for the cable to the amp too, and some other things. The humbuckers are planned for tomorrow, unless I get distracted by some other intricate stuff, like the stable, or the tuning- what's the word- things. Or so it would seem. Damn interesting and funny stuff this. Also I read some stuff about building houses, an architect used blender for planning construction, 3d models for showcase, seems interesting. I'm one of those easily distracted persons. Takes a whale flying by outside the window to keep my attention.
Mmmm.
Peace

I have no pic right now, but have to state that I just fixed the humbuckers with their rims and all. I took the lazy way and made the kind with chrome covers, thus not having to fix the two separate coil things for each of them. But it's ok, a little chrome hasn't killed anybody. As far as I know...
So now it's the stable, with the two separate parts, one easy, the other one with six sliders, for intonation. More chrome. Good. That will be tomorrow, or tonight, we shall have to see about it soon enough though, to be able to go for the last piece, the strings, flatwounds, 4 of those, and two plain. I know how to fix that, just like fixing threads on a bolt or screw, But it will be a terrible adder of minutes on rending time, I saw another guy did roundwounds, took 10 minutes to render. Not too funny.
There might be a way around it, I guess, there's a way of unwrapping an image file, and pasting the image onto a circular object which has been unfolded, cut open, the surface of which, has been, so to say...
Well, I'll pluck that goose when encountering it.

Peace
Skei (the goose-plucker one)

yeah, it's very interesting to learn something new, something that may come in handy one day. Who knows, when I have good control, and some bureau or other need a 3d designer, it might be good to have bounced down this rocky road of knowalittleneedmuchmore someness.

Right now I'm wondering what may have caused the chrome on the pickup covers to turn into the plastic of the pickup rims???
These things happen all the time, I do some silly mistake, and don't realise it until three hours later, at which time I have forgotten what I did in the first place. Maybe it's that I joined the complete pickup assembly to become one object?
Shall have to look into the matter.

By the by, I managed to make those thin screws that adjust intonation at the bridge. With threads and all. It's something called 'screw' tool. Tricky but oh so advantageous in trying to make it look real.

Peace
Skei (the looking for the pickup chrome, where did it go? one)

Yup, now I've fixed the intonation screws for the bridge, and the mounting screws for the thing.
So now it's only strings and tuners left to fiddle with...
Here's a pic of the bridge.

That 'playing around' stuff I did yesterday almost killed the mac. I read about 'raytracing' - apparently used for getting more natural light stuff. I also read about 'ambient occlusion', obviously good for getting a smooth light, without the spot effect, I, furthermore, read about a lot of filters and stuff for reflections. Good things. If ones computer is a powerful sob.
The macmini is a little kitten in this company, thus it started crying. Did I care? No, I added even more effects. The result was it worked very hard for 15 minutes 'preparing' the scene, then the app died.

The result of this is I had to clean away a huge amount of unnecessary stuff, and all is ok, but I was worried.
In the same article that gave me info of 'reytracing' and other goodies, there was a clear warning in the opening paragraph stating that though it may look neat, one should seriously consider whether it is in fact necessary to apply this, because - I quote freely - 'it EATS resources'.

Now I know what the author means by that. It is not nice. Not at all.
In fact, these things only add gloss and shining surface anyway, If I learn to do good work it will show anyway, so I'll stick to improving quality work instead of glossy wrapping...
Just a reflection
or
ambient occlusion.
Peace
Skei (the not overdoing it one, after all)

Oh, and by the by; I've fixed everything except for the strings now.
I'll do those in the morning.
Wonder if I dare to make round- or flat-wounds, or if I better just do plain unwound strings, so as to not murder macmini...
Peace
Skei (the wondering whether 11.50 pm is too late for coffee one)

Currently working the strings. I decided to do just plain strings, to ease the load off the mac. Later on I might do some flatwound stuff, I know perfectly well HOW to do it, just use the 'screw' tool, like when adding threads to bolts et c, but the rendering time....

So I just now put six strings in accurate positions, will adjust the bits by the tuners and the bridge et c during the day,but this is what it looks like now:

PostPosted: Sun Feb 14, 2010 7:24 pm    Post subject: It's finished! Reply with quote

Ok, it took a while, but that's to be expected as I was learning the app at the same time as I did it.

I haven't made any 'flatwounding', but other than that I'm pretty satisfied with it. Some particulars remain to be solved, such as where some of the chrome did go, otherwise it's pretty much like the original. I used a blueprint for a les paul 100, so as to get measurements right, and it's great that such an awesome app is freeware, most comments I read state it's every bit as good as Maya, for instance, which is good grading I think.

Well, here are some shots of the finished baby;

hope the posting works fine.
Peace

Thanks scratch!
Feels good coming from a guitar hero such as yourself, really does!
I fixed some of the chrome (bridge etc) that suddenly turned grey. There are so many sliders, buttons, whatnots, to keep updated on, it's a killer.
But it's got that 'candy' feel I tried to achieve.
Now it's just move on to some other projects to continue learning the app.
Hopefully it'll come in handy some day. Doing some illustrations for a web site, or some pr stuff, I don't know. Just nice to learn new stuff, trying to keep aging at bay, so to say...

Peace
Skei (the getting hungry one)
