News, oh, and the Da Vinci code. Never saw it, meaning to, several times, never did. Tonight I shall. And drink two 'peoples' beer' (aka watered dishwashyummy). And half a pack of McVities Digestives. Nice.

Peace
Skei (the got very good control of Boplicity now, will record tomorrow, probably, one)

The DV code was a disappointment. It's always like that when I read the book first. But, it's relatively new, so what's to expect in these days of superficial fast food style things. It's a bit odd, when people are young most seem to be in a hurry, worried that a few minutes may mean most of their remaining lifetime. Then, as time goes by (yeah, I know, I just love it) and age becomes a reality, an extra hour to get depth and meaningful characters means nothing like that anymore. I believe one of life's main lessons to grab hold of may be that life is endless, that there's plenty of time to add meaning and , to quote yet another song; 'you do what you must do, and you do it well'.
Why bother doing stuff that adds nothing. Why waste time - as it is so extremely rare these days - producing superficial nonsense?
Strange days in deed, most peculiar mama...
Peace

9.25 pm on channel 4: 'The Illusionist', should be good. Ends at 5 minutes to midnight.
At midnight on channel 4+, 'H2G2'. IS good. Ends about ten past two in the morning. I have a 1 meter walk from the TV-chair to the bed. Should make it.
Peace

10.30 pm 'Coffee & cigarettes' Iggy Pop & Tom Waits enjoying the black death. A blueprint of my life. I saw it a long time ago, will enjoy anyway.
There's also 'Kingdom of heaven' at 9, but seen too many times just a couple of months ago, so no.

Right now, at 8.46 pm, it's Dalziel & Pascoe. I like DL. He's as un nice as I am.
At 9 pm it's Morse. Ok, it's not the same since mr Thaw passed his towel on, but it's still probably the best there ever was and ever will be on tv.
'nuff sed.

'A man's gotta do', seems to be a terribly entertaining reel, at 9 on Silver. This fisherman, I understand, lives a happy family life, except that for some 25 years he's been a contract killer, when not tracking down cod, or whatever.
I believe this might be a nice break from monotony, as it were.

Peace

Two consecutive episodes of 'Rome'. The first two, from the beginning. Lovely. I have, moreover, been able to put on socks, and jeans, for the first time in a fortnight. Lovely. I love summer, but too much is too much. I can't afford air conditioning, so I have to make do with the air au naturel, as we say down in the french quarter...
A couple of beers in the cooler, open windows and balcony door, and we're all set for a couple of hours of old roman culture.
Peace

Tonight there's gonna be alot of memorising the lunar landing. 40 years today since. I was just a kid of 5, but I vaguely remember seeing the rocket, the guys walking on the moon, this was really a big thing in my circles, kids of 5-7 years, all wanted kits for building the saturn V, dreams all over, we were all gonna be astronauts, playing 'moon landing', great stuff. I hope I live to see people on mars or something, or some visit by starship Titanic, or so.
Great evening, no less.

peace

Om nom nom, I wish they weren't so expensive in America. They're $5.50 for a smallish pack. I miss living in France sometimes.

Tonight at 10.30 pm it's 'Brazil' on channel 2. A non commercial channel, no breaks, great!
I saw this one long time ago, will enjoy, a bunch of mcvities are rudimentary. The cost of a pack here is about 1.70 €. Quite ok.

That's right, it's on SVT2 isn't it. Saw it in the paper. I got all excited and then realised we don't have access to SVT2. Ah well. Enjoy the film!

It was just as great as I dimly remember it. A pleasure to see quality film in this the day of crap productions. Gorden Kaye, Robert de N, Michael P, need I say more? Terry Gilliam is such a genious. The feeling is marvellous, the CIA KGB cold war bureaucracy, starship titanic, holistic detective agencies, children of the same era, bloody marvellous!
Aaaargggh.

It's been a long time since I saw Brazil last time. But as it happens, it's shown also on Finnish tv at Saturday night. The bad part is that it is on a commercial channel, and the time is 00.25. Great film, one of my favourites as well.

just saw a rerun of h2g2, the movie. Very nice, as always. For once I could relaxand enjoy all of it. What it lacks is 'depth'. as my old university tutor would have said. Characters are somewhat shallow, but hey, it's disney.
Tonight there's two nice ones, first the monty python anniversary celebration thing, will see, will enjoy. Later part two of the sci-fi tv movie 'Impact', saw part one last night, better than expected, hope there'll be some excitement tonight, what with a moon running crazily across the sky, like a bowl of flowers and a whale, perhaps...
All in all a nice evening. I also listened to a bit of wakenius earlier, and enjoyed (surprise).
Peace

Yes, a fantastic movie. Totally brilliant. See, reality wins every time.
Wonderful acting by superb actors. Just think of all those who think gladiator is the best Crowe can do, who've never seen this - what a bummer.

Mmm.

Right now it's 'King of California' (or something like that) With Michael Douglas as the mental patient coming out to terrorise his daughter. Looking for a spanish 17th century treasure under a mall. Right now 'The number 23' with Jim Carrey.
It's much better than one might assume judging by the title.
Cool to see Carrey in something not a comedy. Even though I love his comedy stuff.

Planning tonight's tv schedule opened up for a v e r y late night...

Stumbling on the opportunity to see 'Omen' again, I realised I have to sit up until about 3 in the morning. But I guess with a seven hour sleep on that, up by ten or so in the morning, I'll survive.
Too bad they put the best thing at 1 in the night, but that's life I guess. Sometimes we smile, most of the time we cry, in the end it's all the same anyway. The grim reaper hath no pardon...

Yup, Shikala, that's the way it goes in these olympic times. People like me, and obviously you too, who prefer a good show to a modern day gladiator game invented to keep the uneducated masses at bay, will always have to investigate their refrigerators for good leftovers and the proximity of new and interesting subcultures emanating from last week's stew or place the wallpapers under close and penetrating scrutiny while meandering the lifelessness of the 'life outside of the central corpus'.

And, by the way, most tv shows are part of the same scheme, waving a lot of colorful and glitzy items in front of the mass, and it will be lured not to notice the goings on that really matter. Political leaders throughout our common and not so common history have applied the same methodology for blinding the populas as to what is really happening out there. Nothing wrong with exercise, good for the old 'system', but sports in general is probably an invention to keep the lower classes occupied, thus not having time to question the decisions wrongfully taken on their behalf by members of the ruling strata enabling those to move to Brazil with the money.

Luckily there will always be Beatniks, who question the way things are, and jazz, which is good for liberating thought...

Peace

You're being incredibly elitist there Usky. This here forum is peppered with sports fans who may take exception to being called lower class. Besides, here at the DAC we pride ourselves on being classless. Well I do anyway...

Sorry, didn't think before writing, really. I've been active in several sports myself, football, boxing, wrestling, running, etc, so I'm in the category myself, then.

Just playing with words, not considering somebody might take offense.

To any and all who feels offended: I'm so very sorry and I don't mean any harm! Trust me.

I suppose you refer to the very selfsame cakes which once stirred a controversy involving even her majesty the queen's law (not the band, the gal):

"Under UK law, no Value Added Tax (VAT) is charged on biscuits and cakes — they are "zero rated". Chocolate covered biscuits, however, are subject to VAT, currently 17.5%. McVities classed its Jaffa Cakes as cakes, but in 1991, this was challenged by Her Majesty's Customs and Excise and the case ended up before the courts.[4] This may have been because Jaffa Cakes are about the same size and shape as some types of biscuit, and particularly because they are commonly eaten alongside, or instead of, traditional biscuits. The court asked "What criteria should be used to class something as a cake?"
McVities defended its classification of Jaffa Cakes as cakes, producing a 12" (30 cm) Jaffa Cake to illustrate that its Jaffa Cakes were simply miniature cakes.[5]
McVities argued that a distinction between cakes and biscuits is, among other things, that biscuits would normally be expected to go soft when stale, whereas cakes would normally be expected to go hard. It was demonstrated to the Tribunal that Jaffa Cakes become hard when stale. Other factors taken into account by the Chairman, Potter QC, included the name, ingredients, texture, size, packaging, marketing, presentation, appeal to children, and manufacturing process. Potter ruled that the Jaffa Cake is a cake. McVities therefore won the case and VAT is not paid on Jaffa Cakes." (quoted from wikipedia)

Peace

By 'Hob Nobs', are you referring to Plain hobnobs - which are made at the Tollcross factory in Glasgow, or the chocolate variety - the variety which is made at the Harlesden factory? (again, wikipedia, the faithful old friend in cyberspace...)

Or might you be referring to the football fan site?

Anyway, Hobnobs are definitely bisquits, as they go soft when stale, one of the main criteria for classifying an object as part of one of the two main classes, though classless we be....

Peace

Questions, ever these questions. And people say life is easy.
The colour on the wall there suggests orange, with a slight hint to milk, which seems like an intriguing middle way to go. But I'm a bit plain, so can't decide.

I believe Mcvities is a subject worthy of a doctoral thesis, and there probably IS a thesis on something involving cakes & bisquits. Limp biskits.
Or otherwise alarming. Cakes. Cakewalk. Oscar Petersen did a superb cakewalk with Joe Pass long time ago. Not limp at all. See how I always manage to get into jazz, no matter what the subject is originally.

I need coffee. Might enjoy my last two Digestives at the same time. They rest on the table, hobnobbing within their plastic cover. Maybe dreaming of a place where digestives are free to fly, on rays of chocolate, or moonbeams. Vanilla moonbeams and strawberry fields forever.

Peace

A super tv night;
*Time Team at 6.
*Zawinul in memoriam at 7.
*Midsomer Murders at 8.

Joe Zawinul for those uninterested in jazz is the austrian keyboardist most remembered from Weather report, and for writing the great tune 'Birdland'.

Great evening. better relax, cos tomorrow I'll have to go to some kind of info on a 'programme' for us unemployed. To possibly get us back amongst the work force. That would be nice. But it means I'd have to get up before noon. Which is not human. But for the sake of getting a job, I will get up at 7.30 tomorrow morning. Hope they keep their end of the agreement, though I seriously doubt it. But it sure will feel nice to have something regular to do for a while, a purpose. Even if I, like every reasonably sane human being with an IQ above 2.3, know there is no purpose in this whole 'existence' thing, it will be nice to have something to do for a while.
Peace
Skei (the wonko the sane one)

Just saw one of the best films all along: punch drunk love. Amazing. And now it's one I saw before; Aviator. Also so good it almost wrecked my lantern. So fine pictures. Just like the feel I want to give with the bentley. Dreamy. Aviation. Hughes.
Bah.
Peace
Skei (the logging off one)

Inspector Lynley mysteries. Elisabeth George's stories as base. really good. This man Lynley has a nice car. redish. Dark kind of, don't know the make. Probably some British thing. Nice car anyway. Much like a tweed jacket.
Hmm.
Peace

It's a Bristol 410. Very rare car made by an eccentric offshoot of the former Bristol Aircraft Company from down Scratch's way.
Very tweed jacket indeed.
