Germany's top goalie committed suicide. Words fail me... :towel:

To me it makes no sense at all. He had everything going for him. After being way back in the line for years (behind Kahn and Lehmann) he was going to be Löw's first choice goalie in the 2010 World Cup. :towel:

Tragic. Such a waste of talent.

i´m shocked. my guess is that he never really got over the death of his first child. bottling it all up and thinking it will go away, not an unusual move for men.
my heart goes out to his wife and the new adopted baby that are left behind.
such a tragedy.

Some more information has surfaced. He'd been suffering from depression and anxiety and was afraid they'd lose their adopted child if word got out.

So his response to that was killing himself?

well yeah. not like a response though, i think, just the obvious tragic climax of those depressing feelings. poor guy. he really sealed himself in, it seems.

One of the most evil effects of depression: It can make you fell so worthless that you'll seriously believe your loved ones would be better off without you. What they tell you doesn't really matter, because everything you see and hear becomes distorted in your brain to fit your preconceptions.
I guess it's similar to schizophrenics who kill their children to "protect them from evil forces". It's horrible, but in their minds it makes perfect sense.

I had a friend in Holland who was a train driver but gave it up when two of his colleagues were seriously traumatised by people throwing themselves in front of their trains. Just a lttle thought for the train driver in this case...
