Both Robbie Stamp, former CEO of the Digital Village and producer of the H2G2 movie, and Douglas Adams agent Ed Victor have confirmed that talks are in progress with the BBC about a TV-show based on the Dirk Gently novels.

I will be a boil on Robbies neck about this, so check back for more later.

Oh yes, pretty please!

I vote yes. Does that help? No? Ah well, worth a shot, go ahead and do what you will then.

It may not be the BBC, I think Granada TV was mentioned, but Ed Victor went to some lengths to highlight the viability of the project, hyping it as potentially the best fantasy adventure franchise since Star Trek.

But whoever, whatever and indeed whenever, I say yes please!

well, i hope they´ll do it! but i have to say, i fear it won´t go down well with the general public. the plot is very loopy (which is, of course, its charm!), but obviously the show needs to appeal to more than to the die-hard fans to be a success... well, at least it will air in the UK, where these projects have the best chances. don´t get me started on german tv audiences...

Just got off a chat with Robbie now, and he says hi to everyone and is sorry he doesn't know very much about this at the moment. There is still some confusion if it's BBC or Granada/ITV that's being talked to. But there is a script which, according to Ed Victor, is brilliant. Ed is in Germany (being a frankfurter) this week, or I would have contacted him to find out who wrote the script, so perhaps next week I'll know.

Over to Nell then

I'd much prefer the Beeb to do it, inless perhaps the Primeval production team get involved.

Although anything is better than the Spice Girls bloke been involved.

The first time they tried to get a TV series of Dirk Gently off the ground Michael Marshall Smith was going to do the script. He had a few meetings with Douglas about how to approach it but nothing ever came of it.

This could potentially be a very good way to soften the blow of Colfer's guide to the galaxy.

It was going to be with Granada, but now the BBC.

Ed's right, the pilot script is jolly good, can see this working very well.

Well, pass it on then! Who wrote it?

I don't suppose handing the script around will go down very well, but I'm sure more details will emerge in due time.

You realise though that these things move at a speed that is only just within the bounds of the definition of the term "move"!!

In a race against continental drift, you mean it might get embarrassing?

Ooh, good call.

I don't know though, Ed going public like that (and his words have been reported globally all week) is demonstrating a vague optimism.

We shall see.

I for one would be in heaven. DG is as far as I'm concerned the best thing ever written in this galaxy, as far as I know, mind you. There might be something written by some sandwich maker around Magrathea, what do I know. Such news make it even more jazzy to be among the living than it was prior to it being announced..
Peace
Skei (the so great one)

And what did his purple beard, when he had that, demonstrate?

My good man,
even such a fan as I cannot keep everything in his quite inadequate head. If you have the answer, which I think you do, please let me know. If you are interested, there's a quite good dissertation on Adams' world, universe, psyche, call it what you want. It's free to download, and quite interesting too, I might add!

Peace
Skei (the yellow beard wonder what it might symbolize one)

.

Robbie was also pretty open and optimistic in the pub considering:
(a) He was sober
(b) It was the first time I had met him
(c) I had spent the previous 5 minutes slagging off the movie.

Meanwhile the stage show of Dirk gets another production. Free at Penn State University's No Refund Theatre.
