The first one was a beautiful thing of its time. You had to be there. It needs no remake, but I hope Bob Z does something interesting with it.

why the feck would somebody do this??? and how, for bob´s sake? i mean, will they do new drawings, get new songs, new beatles impersonaters? do a "take that" version? i don´t get it.

the original was damn trippy, spell-binding lunacy. i wasn´t "there", but i felt it just the same. and the bue meanies scared the crap out of me when i was a kid. actually, they still do.

That's funny. I watched Almost Famous like yesterday.

Maybe they'll go with Oasis? Don't they always claim to be better than The Beatles?

I read about this earlier this morning. Apparently, it's going to be a motion capture endeavor which sounds awful. What's wrong with animation?

Ah well...

If Eoin Colfer can write a sixth Hitchhiker's book, then Zemeckis can do Yellow Submarine.

As I do not live in a yellow submarine but, in fact, live in a beige diving bell, I must voice my discontent with the song as a whole.

Plus, Ringo sings it.

If the submarine is not the exact shade of yellow as the original I will be taking a gun and shooting all the Fuck*rs reponsible.
Probably safer not to make this film guys.

This is wrong on so many levels. I'm not against making a big giant 3D Beatles movie, but why does it have to be a remake of Yellow Submarine? Part of the appeal of the orignal were the designs, which were purposely, quintessentially 2D. This just sounds bad.

At least it's not a 3D Elvis movie.

Hmmm... how about a 3D Marilyn Monroe movie?

DON'T PANIC!

Yes they are remaking it.

But...

It doesn't mean the original gets erased now does it! It'll always be around for you folks to enjoy.

Who knows, maybe this will get some more people into the Beatles?

Well look at what happened to Starwars.

Also, there's that thing about remakes - for instance, one of my favorite films is Dark Water. Ever since that awful American remake I can't say that anymore when people ask me, because then they'll think I mean the awful American remake with Jennifer Connelly, so I have to call it "Dark Water You Know The Original Version, Not The Crappy American Remake With Jennifer Connelly".

And nobody has seen the amazing Japanese one so I have to try to convince them to see it and say things like "What you haven't seen it? Dude, it's amazing!" and they'll be like "Yeah maybe I should look it up..."

And you know they're just never gonna see it. They just say that and forget about it, which is a real shame because the remake was so awful and the original so brilliant.

THAT'S what's going to happen to Yellow Submarine.

I see what you mean. However life is too short to be angry about something you can't do anything about.

Things will always be remade. Star Trek, Buffy (not yet but it has been announced), Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Psycho, Predator, The Omen, etc, etc, etc.

Sometimes it creates more awareness for the original version, sometimes it doesn't. But unless you buy up all the big film studios then there isn't a lot you can do about it. Except either be outraged or shrug and say 'won't be as good as the original' and then get on with your day.

I used to get worked up about these things but I got to a point where I thought it's just a waste of my time and energy.

Pink Panther got remade and guess what? I got over it.

PS: Do you know what I did after watching the film Disturbia, a remake of Rear Window? I bought two big Hitchcock box sets.

well, the biggest issue i have with remakes of old classics is that they are not making a new classic! you know, inventing something new, tell new stories, introduce us to new characters.

obviously the money thinks this is a greater risk, so they run with tried and tested material along the lines of "what pleased one generation will please the next one".

Well yes the money is what makes the film world go round (not to mention the world in general).

Hollywood:

Remaking classic = most of the fans of the original + curious first-timers
= cuh-ching, more money.

Kids are really all they aim at these days. If you can get a kid to watch it then you're set. Film aimed at kids + lots of merchendise = lots of money.

Original Fame: R-rated.

Remake: PG.

WHAT.

NO!

The original's fine, no need to do anything besides keep releasing it as we get new forms of media to release it on. Hmm...been awhile since I've watched it. Probably time to pop it into the DVD player again!

Turns out there's already been a 3D Yellow Submarine movie. Well, sort of. There was a 3D theme park ride. If Zemeckis can get it to look as cool as this it might not be so bad.

Also, Zemeckis has already made a Beatley movie. Hopefully he won't screw this up.
