And just to get some discussion started... I'll throw out all the stuff that's been whirling around my mind since the show started up again.

Spoiler Territory

Claire actually died in the explosion. I think. WTF?!
Christian and Claire in Jacob's cabin... Mention, "Moving the island."
Is Hurley really seeing Charlie?
Miles hearing and seeing ghosts...
Freighter crew of badasses, led by Keemey and his insane arm-machine!
Abaddon in Locke's rehab center?! Richard as Prof. X?!
Alcoholic Jack with Kate?!
Ben unleashing the Smoke Monster and watching his daughter die!
A Daughter For A Daughter
Initially voluntary Sayid assassin (well, mostly Ben mind-trick)
Speaking of Ben in Iraq, how did he get there?! There weren't any footprints and he was wearing a parka! A PARKA!

I feel like a mad, raving lunatic, but hot damn if I don't say how crazy this show has gotten! What happened to the old batch of Losties on this forum?!

I'll speak up and say that the show has managed to pull me back in. I still haven't seen most of season 3, but I did see a good chunk of 4 and I have to say, it's kinda awesome. I feel like they might just have a clue what they're doing and I look forward seasons 5 & 6.

The season finales were a major disappointment for me.

SPOILERS

Great big frozen wheel in a Narnia-looking set transporting the Island in time and space? A transportable Island - at least we can't say that the idea for that hasn't been around for centuries, that's what Swift wrote about in Gulliver!
Jeremy Bentham is John Locke? That let me down with a thud, not a twist worth waiting a season for.
And now everybody will be travelling around the real world, murdering Widmore minions, assassin-style?
Could this have been the last we saw of Desmond?!

But - but - but... It had everything!

Sayid vs. Keemey
The Orchid time machine
Return of the Others
Reveal of Locke being dead
The shiver-inducing reunion of Penny and Des
Hugo playing chess with Eko
Walt making an appearance
All kinds of movie-worthy action
Ben going psycho killer

By G.O.B., it was intense and beautiful!

The season finale didn't leave me with a feeling of excitement. It was good but nowhere as exciting as the season finale of Reaper. I will watch the next two series of Lost, though. No point in watching the first four and then just stop!

But - but - but... It had everything!

Sayid vs. Keemey - Never liked Sayid. Never liked Keamey either. It was difficult to decide for whom I cared less.
The Orchid time machine - Time machine! I was kinda hoping that was never going to happen to this show - only maybe The Constant-style, which was a good idea, but not this.
Return of the Others - Yeah, I liked that too.
Reveal of Locke being dead - What a let-down! I was hoping for a bit of a bigger twist.
The shiver-inducing reunion of Penny and Des - That was good indeed.
Hugo playing chess with Eko - Time machine and Hugo seeing dead people - like a new M. Night Shymalan movie, of the worse kind.
Walt making an appearance - That was unexpected, I'll give them that.
All kinds of movie-worthy action - Yes, the effects and the quality were great, that's for sure. I mean, the Island disappearing looked great, but the fact that it was the Island disappearing in time and space that looked great makes it a lot less entertaining. Lost has now been reduced to a simple sci-fi show with mystery elements.
Ben going psycho killer - Now that's the only really positive thing! Way to go, Ben!

By G.O.B., it was intense and beautiful!

See my comments above!

It's a full-on science fiction show now, and it's bloody brilliant! Time travel hints are a thing of the past (hardeeharhar), it's all happening. Oh, I am very happy with where it's heading. Is anyone else still watching?!

I am!

I haven't reread the thread, but I think I've mentioned that I drifted away from the show back in season 2/3ish, but it pulled me back in last year and this season has been great so far. I love that they're going full on wibbly-wobbly with the time line.

*off to dig up the Scrubs thread*

Thank goodness! Season 3 rightfully lost a lot of fans - wot garbage, but worth wading through to get to this. The show's really on a roll now, I feel. I actually did just re-read the thread (hehe! - I used to say that the show was crazy on a very regular basis).

But all of the characters are acting right, the story is moving quickly toward something resembling an ending, and everything is flowing. The writers actually have a time-table! Woo woo. So pumped that this beautiful show works again.

I never saw it as broke. It just seemed boring with the Others. But the camp stuff was still pretty good back in season 3. I'm enjoying the hell out of it now, but I definitely miss the slower pace and the attention to characters instead of the plot. But I'm not complaining.

What a massive way to start a season! Or more like, what an accomplishment it is to take a lot of nothing and turn it into something! Because to be frank we haven't really received new information or shocking twists in the first two episodes, and yet, was it fun to watch!
(Plus, the little we did get (e.g. the violent time shifts, Benry's machinations) suggests that the show is about to take a very entertaining turn - towards a complex-but-fun-to-watch-and-puts-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat kinda road!)

I'm completely hooked again. I wonder how long it will be before we find out what's going on with Charlotte. Probably string it out all season, I suppose. And what's Daniel up to? Is he going to work out how to control the time shifts to his advantage? The bit at the beginning would seem to suggest so.

EDIT: Ooh! 'Charlotte Staples Lewis'! Didn't notice that before. Is she the witch in the wardrobe?

Okay, well, with the season finale, I think we finally have the border done on this big puzzle, but there are still several pieces that aren't fitting together yet. I just wish I could watch the first 10 minutes of the next episode so that the long 9 month wait wouldn't be as painful. Bastards!

*dusts off old thread*

Is anyone else following the final season? Just three weeks left and the mind still boggles.

I originally gave up on the show after the mostly crappy second season, then picked it up again a few months ago with season 4&5 on DVD.
There was a HUGE leap in quality when they gave up the flashbacks and started playing with different narrative styles. The sci-fi-y stuff in season 5 is not for everyone, I guess, but I loved it. Season 6 had a big slump in the middle, but now it looks like it's going to go out with an appropriate bang.

I'm watching some older episodes in between the new ones (especially season 3, which I had skipped completely) and I find them much more enjoyable now. So much of the stuff that felt completely random at the time actually ended up having a point!
I don't feel bad about taking that long break, though. This show can really test your patience.

Yep. I've been digging it. It's frustrating, of course, but it's fun too. I've had to accept that they're just not going to answer certain things. But it's been a fun ride.
