i so want it. i liked "going postal" very much. pterry isn´t losing his touch at all, some books may be weaker, but then he comes back stronger than ever.

More Terry-news:

Terry Pratchett wrote:
The news here is that Making Money has gone off to the publisher; currently the various works in progress are The Folklore of Discworld, which I am working on with Jacqueline Simpson (co-author of the Lore of the Land, among many other books on folklore), Lu-Tse’s Yearbook of Enlightenment (the next Discworld diary) and Nation, a young adult book for next year, which is not Discworld, and not what people are usually thinking about when they use the term fantasy. I am about 10,000 words into it already and actually wrote about 5,000 words of it when I was at the Australian convention a few weeks ago. Well, if the jetlag means you are wide awake at three o’clock in the morning, why waste the time!

Hmm...that's cool. Hopefully that means he'll be interested in advertising the book a bit...like answering questions about it on a fan website for a different author who is now deceased and no longer competition.

I love it when people that aren't me mention my book. It's a good thing.

How big of a throng of people should I expect in Torrance? Does anyone know how popular TP is in the US?

Oh that'd be cool! I don't know if I'm going yet though. If you see a skinny girl wearing a hat, come say hello!

If you see a girl, smallish, wearing hat, looks nothing like Twiggy, that's probably me!

I do like that hat though!

At last! In "Making Money" we get to know for the first time (I think) Cut-me-own-throat Dibblers full name!

I used to have conversations about PTerry books. Regarding suitable artists to play the characters, should films ever be made! The best player we could find to play cmotd, was Roy Kinnear. He would have been perfect for this role. And I'm not sure that Pterry didn't base the character on him anyway!

Everything I've read about it says that Nation is not part of the Discworld, Nell.

Takes place on our old little earth. Climate catastrophe, giant waves and a small group of hungry and parentless survivors lead by Mau and Daphne, they defy ancestral spirits, challenge death himself, and uncover a long hidden secret that literally turns the world upside down.

I haven't read more than a few pages yet, so I can't say much, but it seems to me to be more teen-pointed than, say, the stories about Tiffany Aching.

Also, so far, there aren't many jokes. Hardly any, in fact.

I am worried now.

Nation is surely a different P'Terry book. Gets better in the ending.

..and...not Discworld... not Earth - at least not as we know it. Parallell world maybe. Col Carter should be able to explain it.

Well, I've finished it. Don't know what to say other than that this was not at all what I expected. It's the first Pterry novel I didn't read all the way through in one go, I made a break and read "Last Chance to see".

Having waited a year for a new Discworld novel or at least some Pterry humour, I am on the one hand very disappointed. On the other hand I can recognize the fact that it's obviously a good teenie-novel, well written and plotted (as always).

But please, no more of this, Pterry!

i loved it. i didn´t mind one bit that it wasn´t as funny as pterry can be - heck, "night watch" wasn´t funny at all but still damn intriguing. i´ve always felt that he can do different, and thought this was a great story with captivating characters.
nevertheless, i´m looking forward to the next discworld novel. or whatever he feels like writing.

but please, no more lukewarm discworld movie adaptations. do it right, the next time, if you must.

Just finished this. I wonder if this is Pterrys way of dealing with his own demons? and questioning the God theory?

The next Discworld book, "The Unseen Academicals", has been announced for October.
Here is the cover art:

And here's an interview about the book:
http://subterraneanpress.com/index.php/ ... eph-adams/

A soccer story about the UU wizards? Hmm. It certainly has all the ingredients to be my least favourite Discworld book of all time. Please surprise me, Pterry!

Bought it yesterday, haven't got far yet. On the sleeve is a new photo of Terry, and he's got a beard now to match any of the wizards. Big and long enough to hide a chicken in it. He looks very old.

read it over christmas and enjoyed it. nothing especially special, some aspects could have been more developped i felt, but an enjoyable read nevertheless.
the supporting characters felt more like real human beings, less than like parodies, which i thought was a good thing. i actually expected the book to be more about football (despite the warning) and i also expected more hilarity, but the overall tone was a bit more grown-up, so to speak.
