I remember it clearly when it happened. I changed the cable channel on a whim, (using the odd, little rectangular cable TV boxes with a legion of buttons to push and the weird little dial on the end,) and was greeted with the pleasant face of JJ Jackson proclaiming that MTV had been on the air 27 minutes, (or something very like that, followed by astronaut footage of the moon landing, and so forth,) after which, I would see a video from Asia, and then Flock of Seagulls, The Bugles again, then followed by a “VJâ€

An odd little side note, I met these guys while working as a front office manager at a large hotel in Springfield MO. Their tour bus broke down and they stayed with us while it was repaired. I cringed when, upon checking in, the little front desk girl asked if they thought they would ever make the mainstream music scene. Bless her little heart.

Anyway, I got to hang out with them a bit after work and found them to be an easygoing, likable lot.

More interesting trivia. The Eurythmics first appearance on The Old Grey Whistle Test featured a guitar player that once worked and frequented Bristol Musical. Where I met Old Scratch many moons ago. Roger Pomfrey.
