Fair enough, I s'pose. It's not like I get a say in this anyway

I understand why it might feel like a cheap stunt to boost ratings...

[spoil]... but I feel like Michael's return was part of the plan all along. It doesn't feel like they are "breaking the rules" like they do on a reality show, because it feels like his return is a big part of the story, set up a year ago. It doesn't feel like a cheap trick to boost ratings, it feels like the natural progression of the story. They aren't magically bringing him back from the dead. He just disappeared and we have no idea what happened to him. It feels entirely fitting that we should find out now.[/spoil]

I said the word "feel" for to many times right there. Especially for a non-dirty post.

yeah I see your point. in any case it will be interesting to see and I am looking forward to it

Hey! They
[spoil]didn't kill Charlie off last night! I was all braced and ready for it, and now I have to wait another week. Oh well, at least one more episode with Dominic.[/spoil]

Loved the episode, and hate that I have to wait a week for the finale.

Yeah...

[spoil]I was totally ready for charlie to die last night too. I still think he will be dead by the end of the season. BUt apparently not before he gets tortured a little bit.[/spoil]

Does anyone know how the season finale is working? I understood it to be split into two parts, with one hour next week and one hour the following week, but the preview last night, and the fact that it starts an hour early, makes it sound like maybe it will be one long episode next week. Which would rock.

Yeah, Lost is a two-hour finale next week at 9.

Last night's episode was really good! The backstory actually helped to prepare me for Charlie's death, and usually I hate the flashbacks. I was so ready for it to happen, too! I hope they don't kill him off... I mean, if he dies, they get rescued... But if they do, then how are there three more seasons? He must just die for no reason. That's sad.

I agree, the flashbacks for the last episode were really good. Great job preparing the audience for Charlie's death. So when it didn't come, it was kind of a slap in the face (in a good way). I still think he'll die by the end of the season. And I think rescue will come, but I don't think everyone will actually be rescued. But that's just speculation.

Hm. I think I did alright with my predictions. I guess Michael didn't show up, but Walt did. Rescue came, but we only know for sure that Jack and Kate left. Jack could be feeling guilty for leaving people behind.

Actually, I think the flash forward will probably turn out to be a bit of a mind-f*ck. Kind of like Desmond's flashes. Did they get rescued right away? And why was Jack's dad referenced several times in the hospital? And who was in the box?

I suspect the freighter that they called in will be the backdrop for season 4, just like the beach was season 1, the hatch season 2, and the Others for season 3. Ben says they are the bad guys on the ship. They probably are, and now we'll start to see what they are all about. Is it Dharma? Is it Penny's dad's company (hence why the lady had the photo of Penny and Des)? Or are those two one and the same? Some of the "proof" that they might be bad on the ship is Locke's reaction.

But lordy...why did Ben say, "They're the bad guys, we're the good guys, and if you just hear me out rather than yell and hit me, I'll explain why." Or Locke say, "Jack, put the phone down AND HEAR ME OUT." Rather than threats, screams and punching. Ah well....gotta keep the show interesting somehow.

Sad to see Charlie go. And I wanted to know more about Tom, AKA Mr. Friendly. Ah well. And is Mikhail going to return? I'm starting to think he is a Terminator. Open up that eye and see if there are electronics underneath.

Great scene with Sawyer and Juliet about the landing strip for aliens. Best nod to the fans since the "puzzle that you are trying to put together but has no complete picture on the cover," which I laughed my ass off because the girlfriend and I have had a lot of fun putting the Lost puzzles together, mainly for the glow in the dark bits on the back of the puzzle. But yeah, they show a very small piece of the puzzle on the box.

Lots of surprises though. A good finale, yet again.

And that wasn't Walt. That was ol' Smokey, evidenced by the "get up and walk - you have work to do" lines.

I believe that the flashforward is setting up a parallel story for the rest of the show. Jack trying to get back to the island and trying to get the other escapees, and meanwhile we'll also follow the story of the people left on the island. Also, Jack (future) was heavily drug addled and seemingly guilt ridden, so just because he talked like his dad was alive, doesn't necessarily make it so. He knew the pharmacist wouldn't be able to reach him ("he's 'out of town',") and it seems like the other doctor thought he was crazy.

Just my guess. And I think Ben was in the casket. It makes the most sense to me based on the reactions of Kate and Jack ("why would I go to the funeral?" and "friend or family?" "neither."). Again, I don't know for sure. But that's my hunch.

I guess we'll find out in 6 or 7 months.

number, you've been particularly fantastic with speculation so far, so I think you're onto something. I love this show...

Heh. The trick is not to try speculating about what the ultimate answers are, instead just think about what moves would make for good dramatic storytelling, and what events would keep the show fresh and varied. It doesn't help with long range predictions, but it's great for thinking a few episodes ahead.

But my predictions for what happens in the next episode, next year ( ) are considerably less confident, because it may or may not be a direct chronological continuation of this episode.

this is confusing the hell out of me! I think number's speculations are good, it would make sense. the flash-forwards could be as far into the future as series 5, though couldn't they. if series 4 is all about the freighter and the people on it really are baddies (they had nothing to do with penelope so ben could be right) then perhaps jack and kate escape and series 5 is about them trying to get back to the island. perhaps they get help from penelope and they all go to the island and it's wonderful and great

And they all have ice cream?

Anyway, I really don't know where to place the flash forwards in show time. Which, presumably was the point, since they tried so hard to not reveal the date.

I want to know more about the temple.

According to LostPedia, the flashforward was set approximately 3 years later than the on-Island time-line. Which makes it all the more interesting: whose death sparked Jack to suddenly want to go back to the Island so badly that he even phoned Kate whom he apparently hadn't seen in quite a while?

When Ben decided he was going to intercept the people on their way to the radio tower, he told Richard to take the others to the temple and hide. It was a very brief mention, but I suspect it is tied to the four toed statue. And, presumably, the natives.

I want to see Richard's feet.

I got the sense that he had been wanting to go back to the island for a while. He only found out about the funeral when he was on the plane, which he said he was on in the hopes that it would crash again.

Another good episode. Something's going on with this show. It's like... consistently good. What does it think it is, Season 2?

Wow, episode 5 was crazy! What the devil is going on?! I hope the writers know!

[spoil]Those time shifts are mental - 1996 to 2004, back and forth! Desmond's going to die isn't he  Awwww the phone conversation at the end. Nice for Desmond to talk to Penny

So now we know five of the six survivors of Oceanic Flight bla bla bla (unless we count Aarond). Jack, Kate, Hugo, Ben and Sayid. Who's the sixth person? And whose funeral did they attend? And why was Jack's dad in the cabin a few episodes back?[/spoil]

Well, obviously the last member of the O6 is the one in the coffin. And that last episode with Des may be my favorite Lost episode ever. In second place is the first Des-focused episode. And I think it marked something significant going on in the series.

[spoil]I'm thinking that this "constant" deal is going to be pretty huge. Because, as ole crazy dead guy pointed out, that trip that Des went through will happen to everyone who leaves the island. So each of the 06 who left have to have a constant that they knew on the island and in the past - which happens to be convenient, because, as I believe, they have appeared in each others' pasts. I read that theory on some site, and I do think it's right.[/spoil]

[spoil]I don't think Ben's one of the O6. I mean, he wasn't on the plane plus I think he would want to stay hidden, should he get off the Island (which he does). So I think we can only say for sure that Jack, Kate, Sayid and Hurley. (I think I've read somewhere that Sun or Jin, but not both, are also part of the Oceanic Six. Sawyer, for sure, isn't. Nor is Claire, obviously... And the Man in the Coffin is not a flight815er, methinks. More like someone along the lines of Benry, Jacob, Richard etc., somebody from that gang.
And I think Desmond won't die. He has a constant, Eloise didn't have one, it's not the old Algernon-gag this time. By the way, I really enjoyed The Constant, but the whole Eloise, lilac light, time travel motif was an almost-jump the shark moment for me. But on the whole:[/spoil] Season 4 just keeps getting better and better!

I agree with Waux.

[spoil]Ben's been coming and going off the island for ages, right, so I doubt this is the thing that's going to blow his cover. I don't know if Desmond will be one of the Oceanic 6, either-- simply because he wasn't on the flight either, he was shipwrecked. I suppose that's more of a question of semantics, though.

I reeeeeeeaaaaallly don't want Desmond to die.

Regarding Miles' offer: I'm assuming he works for Widmore? If so, I wonder why Widmore wants Ben so badly?[/spoil]

[spoil]I've read somewhere that it could be Benry himself who wants Benry so badly. You know, a scheme based on the psychology of the individual, to quote Jeeves. He creates a Big Bad Wolf which he then triumphantly defeats showing both his power (influence - he has a spy (Michael, I presume), on the very freighter that's coming to get him) and his importance (a freighterload of people came to get him!). Nifty theory, but possibly a bit far-fetched because I think Matthew Abbadon is actually a lot more sinister and nefarious and powerful fellow than Benry.[/spoil]

Nifty theory, but possibly a bit far-fetched because I think Matthew Abbadon is actually a lot more sinister and nefarious and powerful fellow than Benry.[/spoil]

[spoil] Abbadon?!

Oh, man, I didn't know about that! There is gonna be some drama.

[/spoil]

Finally, Benry meets his match.

Thursday's episode was a little lackluster compared to "The Constant." The acting seemed subpar to me for most of the episode, which is weird. The only good parts were when Ben was onscreen and when Juliette went for a swim.

Faraday is quickly becoming one of my favorites on the island right now. He's right below Des and Sayid.

Hmm, I also thought this episode was a bit on the inferior side. I don't like to think of Benry as a lover (but the 'you're mine'-line and the quickly uttered 'tak as much time as you want' line directly after it redeemed his whole hasty and un-Benryish behaviour throughout the whole episode). I still am not interested in Juliet and her backstory at all...
But Faraday! You're absolutely right! I'll be so pissed if they kill him off (hopefully that's a big if). My revised list goes: Benry, Desmond, Daniel Faraday and even Locke. After that hand-granade trick he pulled on Miles...

I agree that this episode was a letdown, but I'm not yet sure that wasn't just because it came after "The Constant", which was awesome.

I actually liked the introduction of Ben's crush on Juliet because, at the risk of sounding cliched, I think it made him more of an actual person, and less of a boogeyman that's simply there to freak everyone out with his all-knowingness.
I rather like Juliet, so I didn't dislike this episode, although I did find it rather annoying that both she and Kate were taken in by the same trick. Come on, people, everyone knows if Dan is there Charlotte isn't far behind.

Waux--[spoil]Regarding Abbadon, it turns out I remember him, I just didn't know that that was his name.[/spoil]

Salom! [spoil]Well, he's the kind of person You're not likely to forget..! I bet that was in his casting call, too..[/spoil]

And I also agree that Benry was made a bit more... human, but I'm not so sure I'm happy about that...
And Dan still rocks...!

Go Faraday! And Abaddon definitely freaked me out in Hurley's episode. That dude has some wicked stuff going on. As for Ben being humanized, I don't totally agree that he was. It was more like his creepy manipulative ways extended into his personal life in addition to his professional life, plus it set up the Juliet / Jack thing.

Well, well, [spoil]Michael's back and Benry apparently has an army of dead people. Go, Ben, go! Ji-Yeon, though, was only a mediocre episode methinks - too much of Sun and Jin plus I already knew the flashback-flashforward mixup thing, because I can't help reading spoilers...! Yet I have no idea who kicks the bucket next week.[/spoil]

Well, spoiler doesn't work again, so I'll do it old school.

The promo for the next set of episodes has got me psyched. Woo woo. And hurray for backstory and some more answers. Good episode.

These last few episodes have been great. It's because the writers etc decided to stick more info into the remaining episodes so that they didn't have to change their plans with season 5 and 6. Because of the strike fewer episodes will be made this season but they felt they couldn't afford to leave anything out. So we're bombarded with information. It's great!

Lost has officially stepped up its game to legendary status. It's the best it's been in a long time. I'm very pumped for tonight's episode.
