Ok, Fantasy Football is up and rolling nicely, now it's time once again to knuckle up on the ice. The DAC Hockey League is ready to roll. I'm liking the idea of the head-to-head format, so I think we'll give it a try this year if we can get the teams together for it. Anyone interested in managing a team can pm me and I will send out invites as I get the chance.

GAME ON!!!!!!

Seems like it was just yesterday that last year's league ended! Are we keeping the same league?

Like you even need to ask me. The Cementheads will definately be back to defend a dubious title
won through questionable strategy and borderline WWF style intimidation tactics. I'm all for the head
to head style, too. Basically it ends up being a week's worth of stats in a group of categories and you
get wins/losses/ties based on each category versus your opponent for that week. Requires a tad more
strategy but it's that much more fun, too.

Can you smell it, folks?

Fall is in the air. Cool crisp days, falling leaves. Football Season and Hockey Season.

About frickin' time.

We've got five teams so far, and as soon as Puff reads his PMs and gets his ass registered we'll have six. I'm hoping we can recruit a couple more, but if not, what the hell. The NHL survived a mighty long time with only six teams. I'm tentatively looking at Sept. 8 as the draft date, but since my computer time is limited at work that may vary a wee bit. That gives two weeks for any stragglers to register, and also would give plenty of time to adjust lineups as needed.

That date sounds good to me, I've gone ahead and done my blind rankings, so count me as ready.

One more week for any stragglers to make it known that they want in on the greatest game on earth. I will be changing the draft status to 'ready' on Friday, Sept. 8. I was debating advertising in the HWC forum, but decided we only want true sports fans applying. If they can't bother to come here to the S&B forum, we don't need 'em!

Last chance for anyone wanting in on DAC Fantasy Hockey. The draft will be set to 'ready' sometime tomorrow afternoon MDT.

I'm pretty happy with the draft. I managed to snag my two top ranked goalies and my number
one forward, Alex Ovechkin. I'm pretty well set on defense and the rest of the team will round
out nicely with a few prudent moves here and there. With training camp starting this week, it's
starting to feel like the season is right around the corner. Bring on the barbarian hockey!

Glorious, isn't it? Not just fantasy but the season in general. Optimism is high, the ice is fresh
and every team is new and different. So very glad that it's back.

Looks like we've got free Stattracker for the first week or so. I keep checking in but it
looks like Gonz is beating the crap out of me. It ain't lookin' like plus/minus will be an
area of strength for me.

He's even got me beat in PIMs.

Now that's just wrong.

Well, there's the first week done. The scoring had me a bit confused, but I've got it figured out now. I can see where there's some strategy involved in how many games to play your goalies in.

Check out the rules section on Head-To-Head play. There's a pretty good explanation of it there.
Essentially our win/loss/tie record is based on the number of stat categories we win from our opponent
during that week of play (Monday-Sunday). We get points for wins and ties and that sets our place
in the standings.

The goalie thing is tricky in this one. Saves versus goals against, etc. So far I'm convinced that the
more I play them, the better. We'll see, though.

It's weird. By the end of the season, if you play well, your win total could be in the 100's.

You rockz!

As for another type of Fantasy Hockey, NHL 2007 just came out recently. I must say, it's quite amazing - the graphics are beautiful, and the thing just feels so much more realistic.

If it gets really bad, you can always just dump your whole team and try a new lineup. Though last year I had a good experience just sticking with what I had (if I remember right, it looked like I had the worst team in the league), and letting the season go on. It got me 2nd. We're only a couple of weeks in though, so don't worry yet.

SS is right FK, just hang in there. That's the good thing about hockey, it's a long season. Last year Ken and myself had a long battle going for first place, but in the end I came in last. With only six managers we all ended up with superstar teams. Don't give up yet!
