Many serious movie sites have picked up on what actor Stephen Fry had to say about the TV show Blackadder in a webchat we had here on June 14 ( http://www.douglasadams.se/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9448 )

Stephen said:
Quote:
We sometimes talk of future B'Adder plotlines, the 60s, WWII, that sort of thing. But it never comes to much. A lot of feeling that we left it (discounting the milennium special) on such a high note that it would be a bad idea to go back. Chatted to Rowan at the w/end, he's doing a Bean movie in France and confided that he missed the joys of B'adder rehearsals and all that. But there's nothing worse than an overweight boxer past his prime lumbering into the ring past his sell by date. Best not risk it, eh? (...) Ben Elton wanted to do a B'Adder movie set in the Russian Revolution, with a Russian branch of the family ... he had some BRILLIANT ideas .. maybe that'll happen one day ...

Sites like www.darkhorizons.com, www.vergin.net and www.contactmusic.com picked up on this story and headlined their frontpages with things like "Blackadder movie on the way" and "Atkinson Developing Black Adder Film".

Now, only an idiot or an extreme optimist would interperate what Stephen said as "we are shooting the film as we speak, and it should be out next week". Nobody, as we speak, is making a Blackadder movie. There are possibly ideas for one, but from there to shooting is from here to the moon.

And when serious sites like those mentioned above quote from live webchats without linking to those chats, then you know that they are building castles in the air.

Still, if they're running with it I guess it's best they don't link back home. I mean, do we really want folks thinking we think there's going to be a movie or a TV special?

Me thinks we should suggest to Terry Jones that he make some wild ass speculation about a future Python project featuring unearthed footage of Graham Chapman and Shempy McWaggle, the lost Python member.

The future is wide open ...

Former Monthy Python member Terry Jones revealed during an online chat at the reknown Douglas Adams Continuum that he is in serious talks with James Cameron about a movie production of Starship Titanic. "The pieces are really coming together," said the apparently nude Mr. Jones, "we even signed Leo di Caprio to play the parrot."

I think I know my question for Terry ...

What buggers me senseless is that these people are trying to convey the message that the movie is being shot right now, inspite the fact that if you read what Stephen Fry actually writes, there is no possible way to misunderstand. What he says is that we all meet up every once in a while and have a nice chum chat. From there, these commercial areseholes are trying to make news of a new movie out later this year. Lying and intriguing, is what it all is.

Well, you can stay truthful and just deliver News that are real.. but people of today want to hear lies, Dukey... you can say one thing and then they would twist and contort your words to something that they want to hear...

Ah, the old "opium for the people" ploy. Well, since my livelihood is not dependant of this site (more the other way around), I still reckon we can afford to tell the truth here, no?

That should be our motto! Forget all the stupid Latin phrases.

(And I saw the Doctor Who episode entitled Long Game on Friday which was pretty much about lying a lot to the masses and building a huge cooling system for a slimy alien at the same time. And it also had Simon Pegg.)

Had quite an effect on you, didn't it?

Simon Pegg was lovely in that. Nice even keel of menace and comedy.

As for the effect: I like the episode, but I still am unable to like the Doctor himself.
It's because of his ears, I think.

Ah. Affect you that much? Were you mobbed by Dumbo when you were a child?

The wifey doesn't like Doctor Who on the basis that both Eccles and T.Baker are ugly.

I don't know why Eccleston is so unsympathetic, but I can't really do anything about it. But David Tennant on the other hand is marvellous. And these are the only Doctors I know.
