I am an avid reader & predictably enjoy Humourous Sci/Fantasy novels most of all.

When I find an author I like, I usually devour their entire literary output. Word Meisters to have recieved this dubious honour so far include;

DNA (natch); Terry Pratchett; Kurt Vonnegut; Robert Sheckley; Harry Harrison; Neil Gaiman; John Sladek; William Gibson; Grant & Naylor; Tom Holt & Robert Rankin.

I have read many other individual works by a variety of other authors in this genre but would like very much to hear of any other books in this vein that you folk's might be inclined to recommend.

To start the ball rolling, I recently read Eric Idle's 'Road to Mars' & enjoyed it very much.

I've read quite a bit of the authors you mentioned (Pratchett, Gaiman, Vonnegut, etc.) and have read "Road to Mars".

I get a big kick out of "The Illuminatus Trilogy" by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson. It's not a straightforward comedy SF book, more of a near-realistic comedic conspiracy theory. I'm a bit of a fan of RAW.

I'm also reading the BBC Doctor Who series. Not all of them because that'd be ridiculous.

Nice one 'G-Man' I'll keep my eye's open for that & give it a perusal.

I bought a new book this morning - it was 50p from a 2nd-Hand store in our town. It's a hardback copy of 'Dilbert Future' by Scott Adams - it's his take on what the future holds for society & technology. I've read the 1st couple of chapters & so far it's very funny indeed. An excellent purchase methinks.

Anyone else got any recommendations?

Well, I don't know - I've not read either; but according to these marvelous inventions called 'search engines' it would seem to be Christopher Moore.

neal stephenson. "snow crash" is about as cool as you get get; "the diamond age" is really sophisticated. not exactly funny, but there is a sense of mean humour from time to time. hint to recognize when you get around to snow crash: "i´m sure they´ll listen to reason."

when i was younger i loved the robert asprin-myth-novels, but that´s more funny fantasy.

Neuromancer, you mean?

William Gibson a wonderful bloke. Very descriptive, very hard-boiled.

I suggest, if you like Neuromancer, to seek out his other Sprawl books: Count Zero, Mona Lisa Overdrive and Burning Chrome. Chrome is a collection of his short stories including some that take place in the Sprawl. I furthermore strongly suggest you read Johnny Mnemonic before starting Neuromancer, actually.

Someone mentioned Road to Mars by Eric Idle? It was a pretty good novel, and it is handy if You have some spare and You're bored.
