Later tonight, I'm gonna watch my first Dr. Who. The Robots of Death, with Tom Baker. I borrowed it from my girlfriend. I've never seen Dr. Who, despite the fact that I obviously should have.

tell us how you liked it! oh, and if you really want to get started, may i suggest to get the first eps of the new series with eccleston? it´s a good point to start because it really is some kind of introduction what with the series having hibernated for so long. along with the new companion, you get sucked into the whoniverse and get at least some explanation to all the sights. after that, i found it much easier to tune into the old stuff.

Are these new episodes available on DVD in the US fairly cheap(<$45)?

It is to be aired on SciFi TV starting March 17th (so lay off the Guiness!): with a DVD release delayed till July, although the Canadian DVD release is due February 14.

Hope that helps!

Well, if you're referring to the new episodes starring Christopher Eccelston, the answer is, you'll have to wait til July to get them but the list price is $99.98. If you go to your local Best Buy, however, you'll get it for a certain amount off the list price.

The good news is, however, the Sci-Fi Channel airs the show starting March 17 Friday nights at 9, so you'll have a chance to see what you're buying before you go spending an arm and a leg for the DVD.

EDIT: Ol' Peculiar, thanks. I knew it was March but not March 17. I will watch it, but I haven't tuned into the Sci-Fi Channel to see their promos for it. I looked on their website though and nothing. And number 302079, after you watch the show and the DVD comes out in July, go to Best Buy. They sell DVDs cheaper than their list price so you might (emphasized might) be able to get it for the amount you said.
