Not listening to as such but watching as well - the DVD of the Live Aid concert. Brings back so many memories.

Anybody who wasn't around at the time watched it now?

For a country song it's got a great little swinging jazz groove.

Just got back from a gig featuring Stan Webb's Chicken Shack, (anybody heard of them?) and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers with special guest Mick Taylor.

A never ending song in my head that goes something like this...

Must get coffee
Must go to Starbucks
Must get coffee
Must go to Starbucks
Must get coffee...

I think they planted something in my head the last time I was there. I felt a little sting and then there was this mysterious bumb at the base of my skull, but I figured it was just a spider bite or somthing...

Back in Nagasaki

As sung by the danish comedy group "Ørkenens sønner" (Translated: Sons of the Desert).

Speaking of which, I went to one of their shows last weekend. Bought a Fez with their name on it.

I have always wanted a fez of my own. Preferably a deep red Shriner's fez, but, hey - fez coveters can't be too choosy now, can they?
Why don't you send yours to me?

... please?
I'd happily knit you a hat or something in exhange.

Elvis Costello - Waiting for the End of the World

"The legendary hitchhiker says that he knows where it's at.
Now he'd like to go to Spain or somewhere like that,
with his two-tone Bible and his funny cigarettes,
his suntan lotion and his castanets."

I don't know who Mr. Costello is talking about there, but it was a great song (picked at random by my iPod) to start the day with.

I used to have a nice magenta Shriner's fez with a gold tassle and the Shriner's seal... it was the real deal, authentic.

I used to wear it to Grateful Dead Concerts and make that tassle spin!

People loved it!

So much that one night in the middle of a concert when I was packed in close to the stage someone stole it of my head. I couldn't move so I couldn't catch the guy. Not to mention that in my mental state at the time I didn't really care. But once the show was over my friends and I cruised the parking lot after party for several hours looking for it.

Talk about another life. I've seen the Grateful Dead (with Jerry Garcia) more than 100 times. How am I ever going to explain that to my kids?

Each year I get a 10 minute warning phone call from my youngest sister. It's a family tradition that goes back years.
