So this is Pemer...

Born in 1968... lived in cultural darkness until I started secondary school in 1984, and got a class mate that started to tell me about this great book he had read the same summer, I think it was.

Soon I made sure I read the book myself. And fell in love.

In 1987 I wanted to start some kind of a fan club, or join one if there was one. I found out about one that was already out to lunch, "Intergalaktiska Liftarklubben" (the intergalactic hitch hiker club), got in touch with some of the members, including one of the founders, got an address list and started to get in touch with members.

But I had some little different ideas on what I wanted to do, so I let IGLK remain on its enormously long lunch break and started Galaktiska Liftarrörelsen (the galactic hitch hiker movement). Not a particularly pretentious name, eh?

I wrote and copied up the first issue of a zine, Sidan 42, and distributed that at the first SF convention I ever attented, Nasacon 8 at Fisksätra, a suburb east of Stockholm, in the weekend of July 4-5, 1987. As things progressed I came to be chairman of the next one, Nasacon 9, held on Jul 2-3, 1988.

The idea I worked out with a fellow fan (Ahrvid Engholm is his name) was fairly fanatical, in a way I´ve never seen even ZZ9 thinking of. Pub meeting every sixth Thursday. The first one wa held September 24, 1987, and there will be a speciel anniversay one next Saturday.

We also celebrated the 10 year anniversary of the original airing of the very first episode of the radio series. I never saw ZZ9 do that. I was a member there back then, and I´ve just finally joined again.

Three more issues of Sidan 42 came out with number four in May 1988 the last one I managed to complete.

The pub meetings went on into 1990.

Then my personal life changed into wrong tracks in most ways, and I think I´ll just leave that part behind for now. Can get back to it later, possibly.

With the sad news on May 11, 2001, it felt natural to try to restart GLR. I finally made a web site, told that a new issue of Sidan 42 was due soon and hoped that interested fans would find the site and think the 42 SEK was worthwile for getting the old issues at once, and one or two numbers as soon as they came out.

Noone did.

Fans found the site and wrote in the guestbook, but subscribing to a zine by and for fans was apparently clinically un-interesting for everybody. And of course, 42 SEK is horrendously expensive, so didn´t it seem more like that Anders Pemer guy just wants to try to make fast money on some sort of scam? (It´s less then £4, actually)

This lack of interest set my spirits and enthusiasm down, so after two more pub meetings of the original every 42 days cycle things just went out to lunch again.

Worth mentioning is the curious fact that IGLK also came back from its lunch break in that spring of 2001, so both societies exist in some way today. IGLK has a mailing list and has had some meetings I have always missed, GLR has the site and Sidan 42 (NOW number 5 is under way!!).

Not until this year I have realized about this site or Totta´s Swedish one, just like it doesn´t seem neither Jenz nor Totta had ever seen the GLR site after 2001. Funny how it can be.

But NOW my projects will run, and I have joined the world at least, and found my way here...

Well, pics from London would suggest not as she has a ring on the second finger of her left hand and a wristwatch on her left wrist but...

She may not wear these all the time...
This may be a reversed picture of her right hand.

Have to check the prints against her card - now where's that powder??

Hello Pemer, that was a very good intro. I'd give you something, but you don't have anywhere to put it. So I'll give you a big, empty space.

And I might get you something else later. Welcome!

i´m impressed. by both of you, but, naturally, for different reasons...
and no, as mr. holmes so accurately observed, this is not my own hand. and i never take off my rings. i take off my wristwatch though, on worthwhile occasions.
