Personally, I'm going with option 2, burning an asterisk into the thing.

Marc Ecko, fashion designer, bought Barry Bonds' 756th home run ball last week-ish for 700 something thousand dollars. He's now set up a website, Vote 756, where you can select one of three options: 1. send the ball straight to Cooperstown, 2. brand the ball with an asterisk, then send it to The Hall or 3. banish it from this planet by shooting it into space.
