A question for the DAC Puckheads: Assuming that Puff and FK join up again, but nobody else, that gives us our usual six teams again. Do we stick with the Original Six? Or do we try to recruit from outside the DAC to bump the number of teams. I'm ok with how things have gone, but at the same time I always feel like it would be a bit more exciting with more teams. Anyone?

I think as long as we don't get outnumbered by outsiders, it'd be okay to bring in a few others. Maybe we can have an expansion six.

So, no other opinions? I've emailed FK again hoping to get him to sign up. I find it hard to believe that out of all the members of the DAC there are only a half dozen that are puckheads. Is there anybody, anybody at all, that has the slightest interest in hockey and would like to manage a team? If it's a matter of being intimidated by never having joined a fantasy sport, maybe not sure of what to do, don't worry. We will be happy to instruct the uninitiated. If it's a matter of Ken's stinky feet, I will make it a league rule that shoes must be worn at all times.

C'mon! Don't be scared little puppies! This is hockey dammit! The coolest game on ice! Don't make me come over and beat down your door!

Ok, one last ditch effort here. Still no word from Falcon Knight, so I'm going to have to assume he's not gonna make it this year. This brings us to a point where some decisions HAVE to be made.

As I see it, we have five options.

1. We change to a rotisserie or points-only league and play with the five teams we have.

2. Myself, as commissioner, will invite my alter-ego Ozzy McGurt to fill the sixth spot as manager so that we have an even number of managers and can keep the Head-to-Head setup.

3. Each of us manage 2 teams, so that we have a total of 10 and can continue in Head-to-Head mode.

4. We make DAC Hockey a public league and allow managers from outside the friendly DAC Compound.

5. I just bag it all and throw DAC Hockey in the dumpster this year.

The last two are my least favorite options, but I've become rather disappointed with the enthusiasm around here lately. Let me know folks.

# 3 is an intersting option. You'd only have to play yourself
every nine weeks and that wouldn't be so bad.

That's a lot less often than I play myself right now.

We'd have to have a rule that one would not be allowed to
trade with oneself to keep it fair.

I'll put my vote in for option 3, and also agree with no trading between our two teams (I wouldn't have thought of it if you hadn't mentioned it though).

Ok, now we're getting somewhere. As commissioner I'm saving my vote as a tie-breaker, so we need one more vote for this solution from either Gonz or Puff or both. I'll leave it on the table for a few days or until we get all votes in. I've checked it out already and it's easy enough to sign up another team.

Do I need to bail your asses out and manage a team?
(I have a great lipstick/hockey story that includes one of my sisters screaming 'punch him in the fuck*ng face, ya pussy - give us some blood!' ... does that qualify me?)

mg, I'm sure we'd all welcome you to the league with open arms, even without the story. The story merely enhances our testosterone laced hockey-love for you. I will PM the details to you.

(No worries, Puff ... I rarely wear lipstick.)

It's not a problem for me to retire my Pink Zambonis if doing so would allow head to head competition for the league ... especially since I'm still fumbling about trying to understand player rankings and the draft.

Just let me know.

I leave it up to you mg. If you still want to be in on it we need to recruit one more. If you're not really that into it you can delete your team. I personally would like to see more women of the female persuasion in the league, but it's all good either way. If we try to recruit another I can hold off the draft for a bit.

Ok folks, looks like we have our teams for the '08-'09 season! I will be setting the draft to ready today, so it should take place at some point after midnight tonight Pacific Time. I have set the draft order in reverse order of how we all finished last year, with mg and Stej wedged in the middle. This will be a non-snaking draft, so the order will remain the same in each round. Good luck!! Let's make sure skates are sharp and sticks are taped.

We have teams! And now an eight team league, which is cool, too.

This will be my first season watching my Bruins in full HD on my new
TV. Got a little taste of it yesterday during a preseason game vs. the
Caps and it's amazing what a difference it makes.

Game on, bitches.

I'm doing that with my Fantasy Football team. Like the Bengals, anyone who plays against my team pretty much pencils in a W.

I tried to figure out how the scoring works and, as to be expected, failed miserably. Doesn't matter, winning by instinct is as much fun! So when does the season actually start? And did I get that right that our matchups last not just one weekend (like in the NFL) but over a whole week with several games per player? And that we can change our lineups during a week? Sorry for being such an ign'nant rookie!

The season starts on Oct. 4. Yes, you are correct in that you have a full seven days to score per matchup. The exception to this is the playoff finals, which accrue points over a two week period. And yes, you can change your roster on a daily basis so that you have maximum opportunities to play all players with games that week. I usually do my roster for a full week and then just check it in case there are any injuries.

As for scoring, you basically go head-to-head against your opponent for the week in each of the scoring categories. The team with the best score in each category wins that category. The team that wins the most categories wins the matchup. Each team accumulates a score for the number of categories won also.

Example:
Our league has 15 categories in which to score points. Goals, Assists, Plus/Minus, Penalty Minutes, Powerplay Goal, Powerplay Assist, Short Handed Goal, Short Handed Assist, Shots On Goal, and for goalies Win, Loss, Goals Against, Saves, Save Percentage, and Shut Outs.
So, let's say at the end of a week of games Team A has more points in 9 categories and Team B has more points in 6 categories. Team A wins the matchup by a score of 9 to 6. Team A also accumulates 9 points to his total score and Team B accumulates 6 points to his total score. This total score is used for ranking in case of a tie in win/loss records.

I hope this clears up the scoring a little bit.

M'kay.

Sorry to bother again:

On any given day when there are players on my roster with and without a game, do I need to make sure that all my players with a game on that day are active and not on the bench? Preferably the best players of course but if there's a day where Starplayer S doesn't play and Benchplayer B has a game, would I activate B for S? Or is that BS???

It's not my job to be as confused as Nigel is...

Stej, allow me to explain...
Will those of you who are playing in the match this afternoon move your clothes down onto the lower peg immediately after lunch, before you write your letter home, if you're not getting your hair cut, unless you've got a younger brother who is going out this weekend as the guest of another boy, in which case, collect his note before lunch, put it in your letter after you've had your hair cut, and make sure he moves your clothes down onto the lower peg for you.

Yes, Stej, you have it correct. If you have a player with a game that day and there is an open slot on your roster, by all means play him. The only time you need to choose better players over others is when you have more players with games that day than you have roster slots open.

I just realised, that sounds waaaay too much like Cleese's schoolmaster bit from above. I hope it helps anyway.

Simply put, take advantage of every game, every day, in which one of your players is playing.

Because I have a tendency to be redundent redundent redundent redundent and over-explain things when it really could be said quite simply if I'd just state the obvious and not complicate things with information that really isn't necessary to get the point across.
