Haven't seen this elsewhere here, so....

Great little featurette on ifilm.com on the Guide. You can see some of the Guide animations in there: the entry on the Guide itself, and on the Vogons. Very spiffy looking indeed, I think!

You forgot to give the URL. Oh well, here it is.

http://www.ifilm.com/player/preferences.jsp?ifilmId=2668185&pg=default&skin=default&refsite=ifilm&mediaSize=default&realId=2668185

Would someone please find the direct link to this movie so it can be downloaded. Thanks. That is, if it's possible.

I'm pretty sure you can't just save it, although you'll find the file if you dig around in your cache. For the lazy, here's a downloadable link for the Qucktime version that will last for 25 downloads.

EDIT: Nevermind, Wowbagger found the link.

Here it is, in QuickTime, because the others require specific protocols, and so you'd need a special program to download:

http://download.ifilm.com/qt/portal/2668185_300.mov

Pretty awesome!

If you don't mind my asking, how did you fish that link out of the page?

 Was anyone else laughing while watching that? I thought it was delightful. And I like that the guide can noe be spoken into instead of typing. Ah, this video clip makes me happy.

Just went on watching the thing in quicktime, in the 56kbps option. When the first ad ends, and the actually clip is playing, I clicked on the little arrow on the quicktime player at the bottom right and "saved as source".

I opened the saved file, fetched the url and changed 56 to 300. Bang! :)

It must be quicktime, because Windows Media and Real uses a special protocol for streaming.

Damn, I feel stupid. I've had failures too often with "save as source" playlists, and I didn't even try it. Thanks.

Speaking of Windows Media (I never muck about with Real), am I the only one who can't get the clip to play? All I ever get is an ad. The trailers work, but the guide clip doesn't.

When you say "opened the saved file", do you mean that the "save as source" wasn't the actual movie? Why did you have to change it from 56 to 300? Forgive my ignorance, I wish to know for future knowledge. Thanks.

That..was..AWESOME! Thanks for the link, Wowbagger. Well worth the download. The Guide graphics are great! Can't wait to see them all on the big screen.

I went to the site to see the video as if I had 56k connection (so it loads faster). When the actual video started playing, I saved the source (not the movie file), which was a text document with the address of the actual movie. Since I was watching the 56k version of it (which was light and poor quality), I just had to change the "56" in the URL to "300" to get the highquality one.

So there you have it :)

Well, I like the graphics, so if the movie does suck, we can all say, later on, "well, it sucked, but the guide graphics were good." Just like the TV series.

Thanks, Wowbagger. Those instructions were very helpful. I'll definitely use that method in the future when snagging movies from the Net.

For those who are having problems.

I have put the clip on http://www.totta.nu/trailers (as usual). See if it works from there.

I want them to make replicas of the guide now, with all the entries including the bits cut out of the film.

I believe they'll call it "the H2G2 film's DVD menu system" :)

I'm still a bit surprised... Printed?! That's like changing zebra crossing into pedestrian crossing... Nonsense!

Wait...

I had the same thought. And I'm glad to know I'm not the only TMNT fan on this forum, by the way. Sorry for going off-topic, but I just gotta ask you...did you notice all the obvious H2G2 references in the "Space Invaders, pt 1" episode of the new TMNT series (if you follow it)?

It's amazing. I really recommend it. I've got all 15 DVD:s. Waiting for the 16:th one to drop.
The new series is (at least in the beginning) mainly based around the plot of the original Mirage comics, but with some new twists.

I just saw this feature, it's very good. Perhaps it will be part of a 'making of' tv documentary?

BTW- I thought I might add that at this moment the topic entitled 'In Defense of the TV Show' has exactly 42 replies.
