Descriptive of the desire, having been told you are to be made a CBE back in November, to tell everyone but knowing you are sworn to secrecy until New Year.

Congratulations, John!!

Oh, and there is somebody I went to school with on there.
His should read "for making exceedingly large ammounts of money at the expense of his erstwhile partners" but I suppose tha's business for you. I won't name him or he'll probably sue me!

Otherwise, good on Mr. Lloyd.

One of vagasister's friends is on the list, Richard Thompson, for services to music.

What is the difference between a CBE and an OBE?

O is for Officer, C is for Commander.

From low to high the order is: MBE, OBE, CBE, KBE/DBE and GBE which stand for Member, Officer, Commander, Knight Commander / Dame Commander, Knight / Dame Grand Cross.

And if you were an Earl, becoming an OBE would make you an earlobe.

Well, you learn something new every day. All this time, I thought the "O" in "OBE" stood for "Order".

Then of course, having been an OBE, what would happen if he was made an Earl?

Why, he'd be an earlobe, of course!!

(Tony - if you want quoting to work ... go to your User Control Panel, click on Board Preferences, then on Edit Posting Defaults, then click 'yes' next to Enable BBCode By Default. Not sure why this seemed to be the 'default' setting for some but not others after the move, but that should fix it for you.)

Apologies, Tony, for some reason the last post I saw was Dave's. Old age is a terrible thing.
