Mark is doing a Last Chance to See talk next week at 18:30 on Tuesday 1st June, 2010 at UCL Cruciform Lecture Theatre 1, Cruciform Building, Gower Street, WC1E 6BT.

After the talk Mark will be selling signed prints in aid of the Kakapo, and there is also the opportunity to have a private view of the Grant Museum of Zoology which is where the talk is taking place.

Well, if anyone is else is keen to go, I'll go along, but I'm not bothered to go alone.

I prefer to take the whole day off and potter round London to make the most of the cost of the train fare. Will try and sort that with the wife and the boss tomorrow.

I contacted the organisers to see if it was possible to book tickets but it is not and they said they had had quite a lot of interest and so to get their early.

Dave H and my party are planning to be there by 5.30pm as it sounds like seats will be hotly sought after.

A quick report. Got there early, just before Kevin and his family, and then Tony turned up. Maybe because of the weather it was not full.

Most interesting thing Mark said was that they are planning "a few one-hour specials each year". The first of these is the Rhino followup looking at the return of 4 northern whites from Prague to Africa (Kenya) to see if they will breed on their natural continent which they have not done in Europe.

A few little bits. Komodo Dragons have recently discovered to be venomous (as well as having 60+ different strains of bacteria in their saliva). A Kakapo recently had to be put down so there are 123 left. Stephen Fry sent him a text that said, "I'm stuck in my tent. It won't open". Stephen has a "sticky memory" and managed to "learn" Portuguese by reading a dictionary.

Mark is doing a few more talks this year I will probably start a new thread to list those.

Grumble...

Any idea if any of the other talks will be outside London?
