Memphis inspired a bit of a blues kick in us and so we went out and bought 9 compilation CDs which we enjoyed for the remainder of our vacation.
Quite nice.
Oh, and we also picked up one by Lyle Lovett:

Texas' album was White on Blonde; Blonde on Blonde is Bob Dylan.

This morning I bought a cheap Little Richard compilation at Walgreens. It sucks. I had to turn my CD player up to 9 to hear it! What a waste of five bucks. I'll have go find an "official" compilation because Little Richard deserves better than this.
EDIT: Yes! I got my money back! Me - 1, Walgreens - 0!

It's almost out-of-character for me, as the words "Christian-themed" immediately put a bad taste in my mouth. I was babysitting with a friend who's cousin had a few episodes of VeggieTales on tape. I LOVED Silly Songs With Larry.

Also, everyone who has Franz Ferdinand:
That album is *LOVE*! SO much love!
The song "Michael" makes me feel dirty. In a "mmmmm, yeah," kind of way.
"Take Me Out" always reminds me of "Float On," a song I adore.
What else...? "40'" is a fabulous song. I sing it a lot. All the time. When I'm doing anything.
^__^ Yay, music!

You two might be interested in this, then. Nick's next project, due out the 26th of this month
is the soundtrack for The Proposition, a film he wote the screenplay for. An "australian
western" they call it it, in the vein of Unforgiven.

I'll be very curious to see that one. Been a fan of his since first hearing The Birthday Party
in the early eighties and, even though his music has mellowed considerably since then,
he hasn't become any less interesting as a writer and performer.

I don't think I've ever heard Nick sound any different than he does on "Breathless".

Guy Pearce, Emily Watson, screenplay/soundtrack by Nick Cave, Australian Western. I'll probably have to travel a little to catch this one, but it sounds like it'll be worth it.

I only discovered him through the excellently paranoid and cynical Red Right Hand that was used in both Scream and The X-Files. I only have one other album (Let Love In), but both it and my newest acquisition are excellent albums (the latter doubly so).

Well, he's spent a lot of his career in various aspects of the alternative underground. It's only been
the last, I don't know, decade or less that he's emerged into the more mainstream music consciousness,
I think. He's mellowed, his music has become more soulful and accessable and people have started using
it more in films, I guess.

He started out as a crazed gothic post punk madman in the early eighties with The Birthday Party,
which is when I first started listening. After they disbanded, his sound changed dramatically,
still dark but not as in-your-face abrasive. By '86, I remember, he was covering Roy Orbison and
Leadbelly. These days i guess the sound is dark, soulful and folksy. Intelligent and mature.

You'd like him, MG. Try something more recent like Nocturama or The Boatman's Call.

More here.

I bought the last three at a garage sale for a buck each! Unfortunately, the Beastie Boys album only had the second of two discs. She said the other one got stolen when someone broke in to her car. Bummer. Still, good deal for only a buck.
