I’m reaching out for help here because I am afraid I cannot help myself. I almost cannot speak of it. But yes. Yes, I must, if only to acknowledge it to myself. I am going to tell you the truth and pray that it somehow sets me free.

My name is horatio and I have an Enya fixation.

I cannot stop.

I have long known of Enya’s music, and, in truth, I have never been a big fan. I guess I thought it was good for what it was, for the genre, you know, and made a descent backdrop to Farfegnugen commercials, but I have only recently become aware of the profound magnitude of the woman’s statuesque beauty. It happened while I was meandering through Youtube one rainy Tuesday afternoon. I was overwhelmingly smitten with the singing temptress. I felt like I was seeing Joan of Arc’s naughty twin sister, the one without the gorilla forearms that come from habitually wielding a broadsword as a lifestyle. Now I watch her Orinoco Flow video as many as two, even three times a day. I also secretly watch Only Time afterward when a single viewing won’t do. But I haven’t gotten to the worst part yet.

The other day I caught myself singing along. I was appalled by the dirty shame of it all.

Is it too late for me? Have I forever lost the light?

Have I gone too far, Enya?

Pray, tell me that I may be free. Help this benighted fool at your feet. I will listen to every word you have to say. Even the completely silly ones. I swear it.

I'm not sure how to break this to you, my man, but that video was shot in
1988 or thereabouts. Meaning the statuesque beauty you see in it has aged
some 20 years now. In fact, she's closing in fast on 50 these days and, they
tell me, developed an unhealthy eye for double stuffed oreos. Probably sits
around thinking, "When are they coming out with the triple stuffed?"

Which is to say, she's right in your flippin' wheelhouse, buddy.

Tap that ass. Make us proud.

Wait. I've gone and made something nice and decent dirty again, haven't I?
This is all so wrong but, if it helps, you know I have no control whatsoever.

What? What? Wait a minute. Do you mean? Hold on…

Image
Ah yes. My wheelhouse indeed.

So, do you mean to say that if I took her some Oreos, the expensive double stuffed kind, that she might… let me rub her Grammy? Well that's so crazy, it just might work. Sage advice, Socrates. I'll give it a go.

Aah, the 80s... The only decade known to man where people looked deep, serious and thoughtful whilst singing "Duh-DUH!"

I too was caught in the foul grips of Enya for a while. I was also seduced by Deep Forest. I refuse to be ashamed, I was just a child!

I didn't know their cousin was a carpet fitter?

That's a euphemism, right?

Yep. A very good one. Worked on Penarth Library with him. John Ward. He invented a device for cutting joins. Showed it to me at that job, before it was ever released to the carpet fitting populace!

I actually should admit my own youtube obsession with a
late eighties, early nineties music video vixen.

Toni Halliday of Curve.

Wonder what kind of cookies she likes?

Hm, I’m thinking she would readily devour a Toll House. And possibly her mate.

But what a way to go, eh?

Second lady is Beth Hart, she's got a helluva voice. She had a one-hit wonder type thing way back, but she's been making good music for a while!

I used to rant about the below song by Deep Forest. This was because: a) the voice of the woman, b) the electric violin solo and c) a friend of mine used to date the singing lady´s niece.

Probably the most recognized and played Clannad song

You should be praying Uncle hoatio shows up in time to drive Aunt Enya’s drunk ass home after she gets too deep into the cooking sherry and starts passing around pictures of you that were taken before you knew what clothes were.

But, please, whatever you do, don't make her cry. It would make for a very long drive home.

Yes, the theme to Harry’s Game. Sounds almost holy. I whish I could find their rendition of Buachaill an Eirne to post here. It’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard.

Of course, I mean that in a manly way.

You’re a good man Thrith. Thanks for that.

There’s a song for slow drinks and rainy Tuesday afternoons.

Are you sure the burning is in your chest? 'Cause that's not what it says on the bathroom walls at Canter's.

Yeah, but they also have my number wrong on there, too.

I'm no longer at 1-800-KIELBASA.

I'm not going to ask how you even know that, given that I was talking about the women's restroom.
