A friend got a music magazine with the "150 albums you must hear before you die". We are going through a song from each album, to hear if we like it.

Watching Paul McCartney live on Youtube. I wasn't aware of the concert, so I missed the beginning.

There are advantages with Spotify after all. I've managed to find music I've not listened to since I was a tiny dragonette

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen.
I once had a 30+ minute argument with my cousin over the song because she insisted that the opening lyrics were "Momma, I just killed a man. etc"

Well, it's an implied "I." And I heard some group cover it in the 70s, and they included "I" as well as the last line "nothing really matter much to me." This version came out before Queen was really all that known, and it was one of those bands from the 70s that take the new sounds of the day and do a watered down cover version to appeal to the lowest common denominator. You don't really see that these days, so some of you might not know what I'm talking about. But I've heard those lyrics a couple times in weird circumstances. Which makes me wonder if it was an early demo of the song that some of the covers have taken from. I dunno. I just don't get it, and I've especially hated the "much" in there.

A couple of tunes from back when. Oh, what I'd give to have been around back then. Listen and be amazed. Then look at the audience. THIS is the time, the style, the feel, particularly notice the glasses, that's style...

'This old road'. I simply love this song. It's so lonely and desolate. Contains my all time favourite line, 'one more rainbow for the road. My old dad was a country singer, so I heard lots of it while growin up, but never ever one with such good lyrics as Kristofferson. He's good with words.

You did right in discovering him, though! He's a star. Did you see that super movie, about 'coffee & cigarettes' (I wonder if that is actually the name of the movie), he did a superb role, and that other guy, the 'white wedding' one, was also in it. They just sat and argued over all sorts of stuff in a cafe, while smoking heavily all the time. It is a superb reel!
Tom Waits is one heck of a great entertainer!

Try Tom Waits' live album Nighthawks at the Diner, Lord-z!

Me, I'm currently listening to probably the final recording of the late Ali Farka Touré:

Bonus info. The Mathilde in Waltzing Mathilde is Mathilde Bondo from "Lasse og Mathilde".

Right on, Iggy, of course...
Right now I'm preparing for the Pierre Swärd and band concert at the jazz club tomorrow eve. The fact that we have this guy actually in the board of the club makes it even more probable the music is always great there.
Here's a taster. Georgia...

Just got home from the concert. Awesome. To say the least. Awesome. The trio was so groovy you'd have to search hi & lo to find groovier stuff.
They went through stuff from the seventies, like the superb 'kool & the gang', and of course 'Georgia', a smokin' version that made obvious why the B3 is priced like a medium sized house. Wow.
I even got a chat with the guitarist, Jan Ottesen, wonderful guy. He had a wonderful jazzy sound, and pointed me to an amp I never even heard of, 'Tech 21 Trademark 60'. Absolutely wonderful sound, solid state, small and easily carried. Wow.
I had a ball. I even shook hands with Jan. I hope some of his skill rubbed off on me. At least I heard things I didn't know before, lines and sequences I will certainly get into.
Wow.

A tune I stumbled upon, featuring three (3) of my favorite jazzers; The wonderful Jim hall on guitar, The eloquent Paul Desmond on alto sax, the complete legend Chet Baker on trumpet, and as a bonus the mighty Ron carter on bass! Listen to the magic of these masters, not often get so many killers on the same record...

Was listening to this and decided to look something up about BJH and while doing so, I found out that they were the first western band to play in East Berlin - some 7 years after the concert this was recorded at they played Treptower Park - where several of us from DAC spend a lovely afternoon four years ago.

Went to the myspace of the band, Thalamus, Which my present boss runs. http://www.myspace.com/thalamusband is the place, the singer/guitarist named 'Kjell' is my boss, studio tech and producer at the workplace. I dig 70s-early 80s metal and rock, so I feel at home listening to this. Right now their producing their new album, it rocks. This ain't jazz, but it's good music, let me assure you.

Peace

I bought a CD of the soundtrack to "Life on Mars" in the bargain bins a while back.
Most of it is standard '70s stuff but two things really stuck out.
One was Jungle Lion by the Upsetters which reminded me I really liked reggae and ska back them despite being non-black and non-skinhead.
The other was this which I had never heard before

Just listened to a Bryan ferry concert on BBC 2, recorded last week, http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b012hlnz/Radio_2_In_Concert_Bryan_Ferry/

very nice. Interview at about 0.08 on the player, concert at about 0.58, really good!

Last Friday night: Sir Paul McCartney at Yankee Stadium.
Wednesday night: U2 at Giants Stadium.
Two great rock shows in five days. Life is good. Vagababy attended both and loved them too. :)

Ministry of Magic. They're actually not bad at all. Lily is one of my favorite songs by them although Bravest Man I Ever Knew is quite good as well.

Also, I have a Nine Inch Nails mix in the car that I quite love. Head Like a Hole didn't make it on, which is terrible, but Hand That Feeds did.
