Well, let me know if you do. I've got a copy I bought in London a few years back and have yet to be able to listen to it properly.

And MG, I have indeed figured out how to listen to that PAL HHHGG 5.1 disc. It does play on my laptop, but I had to switch regions and I was warned that I could only do this 3 or 4 more times. Once that was done, I took take a standard audio cable (headphone-type plug on one end, red and white plugs on the other end) and connected my laptop (via the headphone jack) to an audio input on my receiver. And viola! Life, the Universe, and Everything in s-u-r-r-o-u-n-d sound! Unfortunately my laptop is still set to Region 2. I'm not sure when I'll change it back...
I've been told there's software available that can bypass all this region code stuff, but I haven't tried any of it and I'm not sure it's entirely legal, anyway. I suppose you could always buy a region-free/region 2 DVD player. Hope this helps!

Yes, I do recall running into the same problem when I attempted to play it through my laptop, but not knowing how many times I'd be able to switch the setting put me off that method. I've got a new laptop since then though so maybe I'll try again. And there's always the hope then when we buy a Blu-Ray player it will be region-free.

I really don't know what to make of this. I am a huge fan of Peter Gabriel but, on first listen, I got to wonder why he felt it a good idea to do covers of some incredibly good songs in such a morose style.
Maybe it will grow but for the moment I have made a playlist of the songs by the original artists ( I have most of them) and am listening to it.

It is called "scratch my back", because the other artists being covered will appear on an album called "I'll scratch yours", covering Peter Gabriel songs.

Oh, I know the story behind it, I just wish he'd been a bit more imaginative in his arrangements of the songs.
Things like Bowie's "Heroes" and Paul Simon's "Boy in the Bubble" have great unusual arrangements in the originals and he does them in the same dreary tone as Randy Newman's " I think it's going to rain today".

One positive note is that, while making the playlist above, I discovered that I don't have Talking Heads' "Listening Wind" in electronic form - only vinyl, so my new "what was the last album you bought " is

Which is feckin' awesome and I can't believe I have gone so long without hearing it again.

Since taking the recommendation of picking up some Regina Spektor from Tony, I've tried to pick up everything I can from her. I really have grown to love her music. So I picked this up on release day, and despite what appears to be a couple of clunkers, I'm already falling for several songs. I do think she has a clunker or two on each album, so pretty much par for the course. But the songs that are good are especially good.

After 7 long years of waiting the Scottish goddess that is Shirley Manson and her gang from Wisconsin have delivered mightily. Definitely my kind of people... and music!
