It's a book about both his life and his work.

I was in the store today, saw this and recognized it from here, so I picked it up. I enjoy it very much.

It's not bad, a pretty light read. I would've preferred a bit more philosophy to it and a little less "What Jim Henson did was..."

You are right about that Gonz, it would have been nice. But still, not bad.

The Planets
Dava Sobel

I've been looking forward to this book's release. Sobel has a way of making complex subjects interesting and understandable. Such a joy to read. I'm a bit disappointed in the size though ... just over 250 smallish pages with oversized margins. Still, I'm sure I'll enjoy it. Time to take a blanket out to the hammock with me perhaps.

just ordered the News Quiz: Best of 2005 from Play.com.

I love that show, it's so funny! Usually on BBC Radio Four, but it says the series are currently off air  I wonder what's going on in there.

I got me Neil Gaimans American Gods, for a mere €6. Add in the fact that I got a They Might Be Giants CD for €3 in the charity shop next door, and I'd count that as some damn fine shopping.

I got Timequake by Kurt Vonnegut, first Vonnegut book I've ever read. He rambles a lot, doesn't he? Strange book, but I liked it, sorta -- well, parts of it. I mostly kept getting confused.

For those who have been patiently waiting, Terry Pratchett's "Going Postal" book has FINALLY been released in paperback. Picked it up today from Borders. Nice cover too, though I prefer the UK hardcover artwork better. Now I can read this masterpiece as soon as I finish my current Hellboy book, The Bones of Giants.

How is it? The movie looks pretty good (and indeed, pretty pretty. The star, Zhang Ziyi may in fact be the most beautiful woman on the planet), but I know nothing of the actual story.

Anyway, on my last trip to the bookstore, just this afternoon in fact, I picked up a new power cord for my laptop. My old one wore out.

Speaking of Going Postal by Pratchett, did you know that the stamp illustrations in the book are from the real thing? If you pop over to my Discworld Wallpaper thread, you find a desktop image I made using them. They are made by Bernard Pearson and can actually be ordering in Little Brown Envelopes from http://www.discworldstamps.co.uk/html/home.php. There are two in the book that I did not see on the website. Must have been specials given out in the quarterly The Stanley Howler Stamp Journal editions you can subscribe to on the site. BTW, for those forum members in England, how much is 20 pounds in US currency? I don't have a universal calculator handy.

I didn't really go to the bookstore; I ordered audio the CD version of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" read by Stephen Fry (thanks to the Talking Bookshop in London). It came yesterday and I am enjoying it immensely.

Today, I went to the San Antonio Museum of Art to see a fantastic exhibit on the French surrearlist Rene Magritte. Since the giftshop was fresh out of Magritte books, I picked up two books about my two favorite artists, Salvador Dali and M.C. Escher.

I say, Escher was a genius.

It's luncheon-time here (noon, that is to say).
Let's have a bottle of rum, then, yo-ho.
(I am actually quite embarrassed to admit that since I'm underaged and don't fancy tea as much as my personality would like to fancy it, I always start and finish the day with a cup of hot chocolate. However Gussie Fink-Nottle-ish that may sound, please, take into account that I'm only 14.)

last book I got was Father Said, by Hal Sirowitz. I've read his other two books Mother Said and My Therapist said, funny stuff. Poems. Also, The Deeper Meaning of Liff, christmas present for a friend, and I'm getting Stephen King's The Stand, which was recommended to me from the friend I am sending the Deeper Meaning of Liff to!

oooh... the stand! read it, if possible, when you have a cold/flu. makes for an unforgettable creepy experience! (and the current bird flu hysteria should add some flavour, too)
