just watched these two films last night: Hero is spectacular, better even than Crouching Dragon. isn't there another one out? the house of flying daggers or something?

down with love was fun. it's 2 years old but still amusing. it once more proves that McGregor can't act. and Rene Z. is gorgeous. and i expect her to come out with a Bridget Jones-ism at any moment.

Grand Theft Parsons - what a shit film.

Hero was amazing indeed. The House Of Flying Daggers has beautiful pictures too (hey, Zhang Ziyi plays the lead ) but the ending sucks deeply. Ain't a bad flick but IMHO not in the same class as Hero.

Hero is utterly stunning, I agree. Just amazing stuff. The use of color in that film is breath-taking.

If you want one just as grand, with a bit more realistic feel, and twice as dramatic, check out
Musa The Warrior, probably my favorite Chinese historical epic in recent years.

The action is great, but the story will draw you in like no other.

I don't know, I found Musa The Warrior not as classy as Hero or Tiger & Dragon. I liked it as an action movie, but it looks a bit cheaper overall. Reminded me of Hark Tsui pictures. BTW, isn't Musa actually a Korean movie?

You are correct sir, but it is set in 14th century China.

I think I know what you mean by "classy" but sometimes "gritty" outshines the slick
camera work and wire-fu effects. For me, it's all about story and Musa is full of fine character subtlety,
sublime drama and action that is not simply beautiful to watch, but meaningful as well.

Still, we're talking about some amazing films, just slightly different flavors.

And how boring the world would be without different flavors
