Really good movie, but it does suffer a bit if you've read the comic-book series.

It's hard to talk about it too much without giving away many plot points, but I think the central thesis of the movie requires a good deal of suspension of disbelief. It's easy though considering it's a comic movie.

I saw it on wednesday. It was pretty good. Well, the superhero bits were good. I really didn't care about Dave getting laid. The Life of the Secret Identity bit of super-hero movies is to add a little flavour, usually, but in this one it just annoyed the heck out of me. If you parted the hero bit and the civilian bit, it shouldn't feel like two different movies.

The thing that bothered me most was how they departed from the comics. That they felt the need to add in some "happily ever after" nonsense sucked.

The changes from the comic, in this case, didn't bother me as much as usual for some reason. Maybe because it's just so damn much inappropriate fun that it holds onto the spirit of Millar's style. Jesus, where else are you going to get to see a 10 year old girl call guys c*nts and blast their brains out from the top of their heads down. Ultra-violent, super-funny and meta-wrong as meta-wrong can be.

In the best possible way.

Favorite line I can recall, "Man, that was one weird sounding bazooka."

A few more comics in-jokes/references would have been nice, too, but there were enough to suffice. I'm thinking this sucker is going to be wildly successful because of the Cool Quotient. Good for another hollywood type taking the unflinching approach to adapting comics. You must admit, as a comics fan watching recent year's developments.

Things are progressing nicely.

I gotta tell ya, after thinking about it some more, I went back and re-read the comics and I’m going to revise my original “really good movieâ€

I rate it a teensy bit higher. Dave/Kick-Ass was a very sympathetic character to me and the actor did a fine job. Hit Girl is over the top in all the right ways. Nick Cage as the dad what a bit "meh" though I did chuckle at his rather deliberate Adam West vocal stylings. Where I agree with you the most is the way the relationship angle was changed. Probably the worst crime the filmmakers committed. I loved the way they used music in the film, though.

The comic was good but not my favorite Millar stuff. I still look at when he took over The Authority and out-Ellis'ed Warren Ellis as the moment he vaulted himself to the upper echelons of current comics scribes. The Ultimates and some of the Woverine stuff he did a few years back cemented it.

I guess I view both the book and the flick as a quick hit, fun romp and, as such, it worked for me.
