Admitidlyyou could just:

Equilibrium - Gun-fu = 1984

But just imagine it...and make Christopher 'insomnia' Nolan the director and you'd be onto a winner!

Ah, how romantic...
"Do it to Julia, not me!"

I saw that movie as part of a double bill with Gilliam's BRAZIL back in 1985/6. Quite complimentary as a pair, I think you'll agree.

Did you ever see the marvellous 1954 BBCTV version starring Peter Cushing? Coming up on its 50th anniversary later this year. Out on DVD soon.

They would have to change the name though, 'cause it would seem a bit campy to have a movie about a scare future taking place twenty years ago.

Not a big namechange. Just something like, say, '84. That could be any '84.

'Tis quite a good film, that. The book is great, and the film as good as it could possibly get.

very good idea. sounds even more mysterious. it´s fitting, too, because actually the exact year is unimportant, it´s some distant future with that oppressive and depressing regime.
