I honestly never anticipated this kind of reaction. I thought the place was obsolete, done in and over. I know I don't come by much any more, and when I do nothing much is going on. I have started feeling we're clinging on to nostalgia in a not very productive and fun way, and automatically thought everyone felt the same.

I am afraid I am so acclimated to Facebook now that I have looked for the "Like" button four times while reading this conversation.

I will miss the amazing smilie selection, besides all of the rest of the features everyone has pointed out.

Nell, Cags, we really would love to have you over there. I'm sure everyone else agrees -- we wonder about how you both are all the time.

The thing I like about FB is that I can find out about my kids, my extended family, the DAC members, and the population of my little town all in one swell foop.

Thank you, Jenz, for creating the DAC and starting this whole thing. It certainly has made a massive difference in my life. It has taken me to places that had never taken me before.

Bye, DAC. Unless OP takes you on. Then we'll see!

Guess t'other place is to blame along with Eric. But most of all I blame 2legs

I use the same alias over there as I do here. Worked so far.

Thanks. We'll see. Now that I've started a new job, I don't have much time to post anyway, but I am not a fan of Facebook. And once the conservative in-laws joined Facebook and friended me, it kinda killed my desire to post. But I also like how the postings go here more than how Facebook works, so I guess I'm just stuck in my ways. I do get the occasional notice into my email inbox though, as I am a member. I just rarely log into Facebook. But if/when this place dies, I might occasionally pop in.

... great, now i have the melody stuck in my head. well, much worse things got stuck there.

as for the facebook vs. DAC problem: i´m not overyl familiar with the whole FB, but i can´t imagine we´d have the same sort od theme structur as we have here, do we?
(yes, i could pop over and see for myself.
...naw.)

and jenz: beware of the ghosts you´ve called. or rather, be proud of it. this truly is a unique place. if only for the fact that it has managed to stay an asshole-free zone, which is a rarity on the internet these days, i hear.

also, i still plan on turning one of your stories into a comic strip. i dodn´t know if you remember, it featured a dead gull baby, its mother and your kids, and you told it in such a funny and weird way, it just stuck with me. saved the post and turned it into comic-compatible text already, hopefully i´ll get around to the pictures, too.

I never used these forums as often as I'd like, but I'm really grateful to Jenz et al for fostering the awesome environment that allowed us to do those Dirk radio series a few years back, which I had loads of fun working on, especially thanks to the great & fun bunch of people that wanted to take part. Also thanks of course to anyone who was involved :-) I'm glad the planning, conversations etc there will be recorded for prosperities sake. And it was cool to see the fezes a few months back at the Virtual 60th, even though I didn't recognise the faces under them!

Cheers, DAC, and shine on!

So, what your saying is, it's not US you like, it's just the DAC. I think we understand.

So is there a date for the demolition, or do I need to start hunting for this sign?

Hallo gloomy Froods!

May I chime in for an humble, unsolicited suggestion?

This forum is very articulated, with a lot of sub boards, threads etc.
Bloody well organized I will admit Jeltz boss….ehm…Jenz, but there seem to be a big dispersion…and considering there is no queue of pilgrims at the doors of Holyland, when you enter a thread you can’t help feeling like a sensible thought in any of Zaphod’s skulls: utterly misplaced and terribly alone.

I am sure very few visitors pop in and check out all the corners of the site….and a lot of the possible interaction goes up the toilet (as the expression goes within the ultra-light beings of Stormyfartblast, where farting is not only the main way of propulsion at all ages, but also the only way of communicating).*

So I think it would be (ouch!)** warmer, denserd and after all more inspiring if all was on one single board/thread/place to post on, or however else you want to call it.
You will (ouch!)** lose some organization but…maybe no one will notice on Vogsphere.

Just an opinion of course, and if you think I took too much liberty I am sorry.

I hate FB (ouch!!)**, and if this place closes it will be sad.

Best regards
Amubello

Hallo again,

before you close down shop, I wonder if any of you can help me.
I recently discovered there is a pubblication of the HHGG radio scripts: "THE HITCH HIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY THE ORIGINAL RADIO SCRIPTS ".
I tried to buy it on some on line store but unsuccessfully.
I will be in London in a couple of weeks and, apart from paying my tributes in Highgate Cemetery, I would like to try and come back with something preciously unread before.
Can you suggest some bookshop in London that I may check out for it with some chance?
My on line dealer told me it is sold out and no reprinting is planned, so it might be a bit difficult, though.

Thanks in advance.
Amubello

Ps: I know this is the wrong thread for this post but when the universe is collapsing and sadness drifts towards infinity, the laws of phisics also break down. Or so they pretend to sell a few more popular sci books.

Hi Tony,
that's very kind of you.
Regretfully I had to postpone my trip to London.
I will try Amazon on my own, though, and thanks for the tip.
When I know my new dates I will try and see if anyone of you guys is up for a beer, maybe in that pub just off Angel tube station
(if this place is still on, of course)
Ciao

That's a shame. Good luck getting hold of the book.
And just in case Jenz does close the place, you could join us on FB. Almost everyone who was anyone is there.
