I was in an anthro class (taught by our theatre director) and someone
asked me why i always had my towel with me. (I had draped it over my
shoulders like a shawl) since it was SO cold in the room. So, i started
to give "the standard answer" - a bit turned down. of course, i got quite
a few "blink blinks" (ie, he must be mad, 'tis true, 'tis pitty, 'tis pitty
'tis treu, kinda stuff).

So, the instructor (Dr. Riccio) said, "well, it's also good for keeping
from being eaten by the ravenous bug blatter beast of Traal" -- they gave
him the blink blink look, and someone asked, "So, you know what he's
talking about?" He replied (with more than a bit of dignity), "Of course,
it's from the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams".

way cool to find DNA-aware dna-based life forms on this beautiful,
small, blue-green planet.

Frank,

...although, the remaining three do illustrate why GF is becoming my favorite comic strip.

Question in the Times quiz on Monday:

"Which Douglas Adams character had a holistic detective agency?"

Four of the five people I was sat with got it right.

I like my friends.

If I count all the way up to 41 and add just one more, I get 42.

Today I was walking home, and decided to visit a small flea-market on the way. Used book-section had the soft-cover version of Salmon of Doubt. Price very reasonable 3 euros. Well... I have the book already, so I didn't buy it.

I stepped out of the door, and there on the street walks the (locally) famous actor, who played narrator and the voice of the book in Finnish radio-version of Hitchhikers trilogy. He works on the local theatre now, so it wasn't such a big thing, seen him before. But the two incidents combined, it was a pretty nice DNA-moment.

Yeh, those "meaningful moments of synchronicity" as Jung refered to
it are always out there, but most of the time we're just too tuned out
of things to notice.

Of course carrying a towel all the time (other than being handy
for such things as placing it over the bag of cubed ice) and then
using a hammer to break up the cubes - if you don't use the
towel, the hammer, just cuts up the bag).

Anyway, i get about 2 or 3 comments a month about it that are
dna-related, many many hoopy froodz everywhere.

And of course, i *continually* see BUS #42 - which i've never
ridden, who knows maybe it stops at milliways.

I don't know if this has been pointed out already but Tom Baker's reign on Doctor Who was 41 stories. Had Shada, which was written by bopAd, been completed, it would've been 42.

There is a very funny and witty bloke nicknamed Douglas Adams posting on a couple of fora of supporters of Genoa cricket (!) and football club.
He posts very good jokes using mostly Arthur and Ford as characters.
But I do not know if this counts, because it's me.

I just got Civilization IV - Beyond the Sword, and this familiar quote filled the room, when I discovered the LASER:

Strict city-management, science and culture fixation, exploitation of opponents, lucky world with good resources and spending a gazillion hours from back in the Amiga days playing CIV, CIV II, Alpha Centauri, CIV III, CIV IV, CIV IV-Warlords, and now CIV IV-Beyond the Sword.
By the way - I was only playing "noble" in this game, so it wasn't that hard. Had it been at "deity" level, I would have had problems indeed.

Hehe, I'm usually chuffed if I can get railroad by 1500 so the laser by 720 is mega micro management.

They certainly seem to be on a different planet. I just bought Photoshop Elements for Mac and, while it is a very nice program in itself, it totally fails to conform to any Mac standards - it installs all sorts of crap (like your typical Windows prog) and runs full screen.

I am not pleased.

I was on the Denver Post newspaper site today, and noticed that they now call their on-line chat forum "Share and Enjoy"

Considering the caliber of most of the people who get on their forum, they are almost but not entirely unlike... rational.

No need to be sorry, Janette, we're talking about Thrith the Bigamist here. He's already married, although only God knows how he managed to convince that nice lady! Further proof that there is no God.
